A special thank you to everyone who came along to the ‘Nascent’ poetry workshop.
Speaking to the kaupapa name, we focussed on bringing an emotion or idea into existence by observing it and nurturing it.
Held in Object Space’s exhibition ‘Engrained’, Martino Gamper’s furniture offered a tactile space to move, write and connect.
@millytaylor__@gabstoddard I’m so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate alongside your Articulation Workshop series. Tēnā rawa atu kōrua!

Rocks and Pots
On Saturday May 30th between 1.30-3.30pm
I will be doing a little talk about rock glazing at
ENDGRAINED:Martino Gamper's
show @objectspace .
@martinogamper show invites us to interact and utilise the furniture (with felt pads).
I knew it would be the perfect venue to do the same with my pots and rocks.
Come drink tea in my cups and hear about mountains of China and Japan, and early New Zealand rock glazes that I have unearthed with assistance from @creativenz Fellowship Fund
Think my mentor Wailin Elliott (1939–2024) would have enjoyed seeing this work about her pottery practice out and about @taurangaartgallery@objectspace@aotearoaartfair@masterworksnz

Wailin Elliott’s Phoenix Kiln 2024
hand loomed glass beads, bead thread, frame
320 x 235 x 45mm
“Meticulously detailed in blue and white beads, Tsui represents Wailin Elliott’s phoenix kiln from the backyard of her Coromandel villa – the house she purchased from artist and peer Barry Brickell. Best known as a ceramicist, Elliott (1939–2024) is an integral figure to Aotearoa Chinese art, and alongside her friend Brickell, was deeply involved in the running and development of Driving Creek Pottery in the Coromandel peninsula, from its inception in the 1970s until the mid 2010s.” Curator Van Mei @taurangaartgallery@deathbypdf

Imogen and I are taking advantage of the current bookable exhibition at @objectspace (Auckland) to rehearse on Sunday afternoon.
We will be working on a duet recorder programme for a (not yet scheduled) future concert.
Anyone is welcome to pop by throughout the afternoon, see the exhibition (free!), hear some rehearsal, and feel free to ask us questions between playing.

Receiving the 2026 Springboard Award Gifted by Joy Shivas
Scarlett tells stories through images – building characters and worlds that feel both playful and deeply human.
Working across publishing, murals, and animation, her practice stays grounded in narrative, holding humour and vulnerability side by side.
"Validation is too small a word. A huge part of being an emerging maker is convincing people that you are worth their time. With that comes rejection, second-guessing and constant instability. Being a 2026 Springboard recipient tells those people, and reminds me when I forget, that I am absolutely worth their time. It also means security, lack of which so often means emerging makers end up leaving their creative paths (which I’ve come close to!). My overwhelming gratitude for this award."

We’re thrilled to present Angel Numbers on the Dash by @minginui — joining us for @aotearoaartfair 🚗🪽
Taking aim at the absurdity of Aotearoa’s housing market, Ming’s decked-out Daihatsu — complete with a chandelier and satin-smocked seat covers — is a “commentary on the contrasting comparison between necessity and wealth” that “makes jest of the notion of someone living a luxurious lifestyle, while simultaneously living out of their car.”
Pull up to Takutai Square to take a look from late next week.
