This week Katie’s Kurī is out in the world, and I’m so glad I got to be part of it. So cool to work with the teams at @studiolocal.tv and @sweetshop_entertainment , especially @jaredkahi who directed it and Amanda Alison who wrote it (with Jamaine Ross). I worked on character designs, storyboards, backgrounds and some typography bits that pop up - here’s a few behind the scenes bits, was a joy to see it all come to life in the show.
The series is out this week on Sky Open and SkyGO
It’s been a while but I’ve made a new tee - I wanted to make something positive for stormy times. It’s a pre-order - I’ll take orders up until March 10th (two weeks from now) and print them after that (and probably never again). Pre-order means it takes a little longer than buying something off the shelf but it’ll be custom screenprinted, sent directly from me to you. Orders at / - link in my bio
"Just over two years ago, I decided to try something new," writes illustrator Toby Morris (@xtotl ). "I’d been making comics on social and political issues, but in such a polarised and insular time I was beginning to worry I was only reaching people who already agreed with me.
"I decided to try making something more universal. I wanted to celebrate a wide range of everyday characters, with the idealistic hope that when we really see each other, we can respect each other."
As Morris's @sundaymag column People Watching comes to a close, the self-described introverted illustrator looks back on drawing 992 portraits of more than 1500 different people from all walks of life, all over the country. Whether on the field with the All Blacks, inside Neil Finn’s studio, at a Tongan church, a Southland milking shed, a waka ama competition or a cat show, he reflects on what drawing everyday New Zealanders has taught him about trust, courage and the magic in the mundane.
"I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has followed along and supported, and an even bigger thank you to the amazing people who trusted me to draw them."

The Welly ‘where’s kiwi?’ is the result of a very Pōneke partnership:
💨The artwork was commissioned for the can label for Garage Project’s Brown Kiwi – NZ hoppy pale ale – brewed to toast kiwi comeback. (“An early contender for Beers of the Year”, Martin Bridges, Third Pint Theory.)
💨 Toby is a longtime CK friend (check the Anahera Side Eye comic — link in bio ⬇️ 👀 — and Alien Weaponry collab ‘Kiwi vs Possum!’ – love your mahi🤘🏽).
10 years ago wild Wellington kiwi were a pint dream — they’d been exiled for well over a century. Epic collective effort from communities, iwi and landowners has made this vision a reality.
Cheers – kiwi ora!

Always cool to get a new School Journal in the mail - I did some drawing in this one. The journal is a national treasure - this one also has some great stories (Airana Ngarewa! Rose Lu! A great play by Kate de Goldi!) and some beautiful illustrations from Josh Morgan (including this cool as cover) Gavin Mouldey and more.
