The Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture is a 6-month residency programme (2 collective sessions per month) by Nxt Museum dedicated to talent development, knowledge exchange, and professionalisation for emerging creatives working at the intersection of visual art, immersive media, performance, and sound. The programme is led by curator and lead mentor Bogomir Doringer (@bogomirdoringer ), an artist and researcher at the forefront of night culture. His ongoing research on the "dance of urgency" shapes the academic and artistic framework of the programme. Anna Bogomolova (@blitzkickers ), Amsterdam based filmmaker and creative, will work alongside Bogomir to select the artists. On 24 April, we opened the first new addition to our exhibition: the 4DSOUND Spatial Sound Room. The evening began with an opening by Merel van Helsdingen (@merelvanh ), followed by a 4DSOUND-coded talk by Ruben Baart (@rubenbaart.nl ), Poul Holleman (@poulholleman )and Salvador Breed (@sssalvadorrr ). Created in collaboration with 4DSOUND (@4dsound ), the space is built entirely around sound not something to look at, but something to feel. Now open at Nxt Museum, the room presents Origin, a 12-minute composition developed collectively by the 4DSOUND team. Step closer. What if the new space we're opening is defined by the audible rather than the visual? With other senses subdued, you slow down and listen. The sonic becomes the main narrative. It takes over you. 4DSOUND ( @4dsound ) is an internationally renowned spatial audio lab. For over 15 years, the Amsterdam-born studio has been developing advanced spatial audio software and omnidirectional sound systems, building a dynamic ecosystem that spans music, art, education, and research - with venues in Berlin, Copenhagen, New York, Veszprém, and now Amsterdam. At the core of their practice is the projection of sound holograms: a directed dispersal of sound fired from omnidirectional devices that places you inside a soundscape with no single sweet spot - because every spot is. You perceive sound not as something playing around you, but as an almost physical, all-encompassing presence. Their opening composition Origin, carefully crafted for this space, marks 4DSOUND's return to Amsterdam, the city where it all began. In essence, a gesamtkunstwerk, Origin reflects the studio's collaborative practice that extends beyond their custom-made technology: a collective work that moves between the minimal and the cinematic, the intimate and the overwhelming. We are excited to welcome 4DSOUND (@4dsound ) to Nxt Museum. 4DSOUND creates advanced spatial audio software and omnidirectional sound systems, allowing sound to move in every direction simultaneously, creating sonic environments that are as much physical as they are auditory. The programme opens with a collective composition from 4DSOUND’s creative studio, marking both a return to Amsterdam, the city where it all began in 2007, and the start of a long-term collaboration with Nxt Museum. Nxt Museum introduces the Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture with Bogomir Doringer - and the open call is now live. We are launching a 6-month residency programme dedicated to talent development, knowledge exchange, and professionalisation for emerging creatives working at the intersection of visual art, sound, performance, and immersive media. Four residents will be selected to develop and premiere new work using Nxt Museum’s exhibition space and audiovisual infrastructure as their canvas. Bogomir Doringer ( @bogomirdoringer ) leads the Night Academy as its curator and lead mentor, guiding residents through the programme and shaping the selection of each cohort. The Night Academy is led by his expertise and years of practice as an artist and researcher at the forefront of night culture. His ongoing research on “dance of urgency” and being part of Nxt Museum will resonate through the programme. With special guests, Doringer will guide residents in both their artistic development and in their path toward a responsible and complex understanding of dance rituals, nightlife, club culture, and the sociopolitical power of music. Last week, we welcomed the artists behind our current exhibition, Still Processing, on stage to a special evening full of talks, stories, poetry, philosophy, history, a generative art journey and live artwork demos, moderated by Bogomir Doringer ( @bogomirdoringer ). Drawing from a recent fascination with cyclopses and their limited vision, Rosa Menkman ( @_menkman ) discussed the idea of being blind to 3D dimensions. Children of the Light ( @wearechildrenofthelight ) took us on a throwback journey of how it all started for them. There is a prequel to the round and mellow in the form of sharp edges, loose spirals cutting through the space. Geoffrey Lillemon ( @geoffreylillemon_ ) presented his new work, in which he moved from basic machine-learning puppets playing chess to puppets reading signal data from intelligence datasets. Boris Acket ( @boris.acket ) did a deep dive into historical discussions on time relativity that continue to inform his artistic practice. He concluded the evening with a performance of his new composition, ‘Duration’, which is now live at Nxt Museum. Thank you to everyone who shared this special evening with us. She arrives with the questions the industry doesn't want answered. Children of the Light (@wearechildrenofthelight ) unpack how the cosmic becomes physical — their methodology, their practice, and what it takes to bring the infinite into a room. Geoffrey Lillemon (@geoffreylillemon_ ) goes deep on the driving force behind his AI characters. Does AI manifest genuine human properties? Is it gullible? Expect chaos, beauty and no easy answers. Boris Acket (@boris.acket ) closes the night with a live premiere — a new audio-visual composition recomposing his exhibited work in real time.
