4DSOUND is featured in issue 106 of Electronic Sound magazine. Reflecting on our Stone Nest residency in London, Anton Spice interviews Kali Malone, NikNak, and Max Cooper about their experience creating new spatial sound works for the system. Co-founder and director Poul Holleman speaks about the technology and values underpinning the company. A great read that situates the 4DSOUND project amongst pioneering spatial sound experimentation in history. The issue is sold out online but you can still find it at your local magazine stands! @hotscorpions @maxcoopermax @niknakdjmusic @anton.spice @poulholleman @electronicsoundmag #electronicsound #4dsound #spatialsound #spatialaudio #immersivesound #immersiveart

Join us during the launch of Futures of Listening: a new Netherlands-based platform dedicated to emerging developments in spatial sound. On Thursday 28 May we invite all makers, researchers, students, developers, listeners, and enthusiasts of immersive sound experiences to the first public event of Futures of Listening at the 4DSOUND studio in Amsterdam. Founded by FIBER Festival, @4dsound , Robin Koek (@visionsofvisions ), and Art of Sound (Royal Conservatoire The Hague), Futures of Listening focuses on current and past immersive technologies and listening practices with a sound-centered mission. During the project launch, there will be presentations and discussions with artists and industry professionals on new developments in spatial sound. The day is intended to forge new connections among various actors in the field and to provide an opportunity for knowledge exchange. In addition to various lectures and discussion sessions, the programme will also include opportunities for collective listening. Participating artists & speakers: Linnea Semmerling, Jordan Juras, Nele Möller, mesocosm (Joel Lavoie, Philippe Vandal & Emma Forgues), Roman Willems, Robin Koek, Pinar Temiz, Pía Baltazar, Julian Tjon Sack Kie, Federica Notari, Marieke van der Ven. Step closer. What if the new space we're opening is defined by the audible rather than the visual? With other senses subdued, you slow down and listen. The sonic becomes the main narrative. It takes over you. 4DSOUND ( @4dsound ) is an internationally renowned spatial audio lab. For over 15 years, the Amsterdam-born studio has been developing advanced spatial audio software and omnidirectional sound systems, building a dynamic ecosystem that spans music, art, education, and research - with venues in Berlin, Copenhagen, New York, Veszprém, and now Amsterdam. At the core of their practice is the projection of sound holograms: a directed dispersal of sound fired from omnidirectional devices that places you inside a soundscape with no single sweet spot - because every spot is. You perceive sound not as something playing around you, but as an almost physical, all-encompassing presence. Their opening composition Origin, carefully crafted for this space, marks 4DSOUND's return to Amsterdam, the city where it all began. In essence, a gesamtkunstwerk, Origin reflects the studio's collaborative practice that extends beyond their custom-made technology: a collective work that moves between the minimal and the cinematic, the intimate and the overwhelming. The 4DSOUND space is now open at Nxt Museum, come and feel it for yourself. 🔗 Link in bio.

We are excited to welcome 4DSOUND (@4dsound ) to Nxt Museum. 4DSOUND creates advanced spatial audio software and omnidirectional sound systems, allowing sound to move in every direction simultaneously, creating sonic environments that are as much physical as they are auditory. The programme opens with a collective composition from 4DSOUND’s creative studio, marking both a return to Amsterdam, the city where it all began in 2007, and the start of a long-term collaboration with Nxt Museum. This is the first museum presentation of 4DSOUND in the Netherlands. Come and feel it for yourself from 24 April. Made possible by the kind support of Cultuurloket DigitALL. @_stageix is hiring: Documentalist / Artist-Researcher for Documentation Freelance · Part-time (0.4 FTE) · 21 months · Netherlands-based Start: April 2026 Are you an artist who thinks through making—and believes that how we capture creative processes matters as much as what we capture? Do you move comfortably between a camera, an editing suite, and a critical conversation about knowledge and archives? Do you have your own practice, a nose for what’s worth recording, and the instinct to turn raw process into something others can learn from? Stage IX—a new residency programme for immersive arts backed by six Dutch institutions—is looking for a Documentalist: an artist-researcher who will embed with resident artists, capture the knowledge that emerges in the heat of making, and experiment with immersive tools to reinvent what documentation can be. Part knowledge curator, part creative accomplice, part archival innovator. Detailed Job Description: /s/QnLTfaTJsffEgYo Application Form: /documentalist

Stage IX x 4DSOUND 4DSOUND is an Amsterdam-based studio dedicated to spatial sound as a creative medium. For over a decade, the studio has been developing advanced spatial audio software and omnidirectional sound systems, building a dynamic ecosystem spanning music, art, education, and research. Within the Stage IX residency programme, 4DSOUND brings this infrastructure and expertise directly to resident artists, offering the tools, knowledge, and space to think with and through spatial sound. Sculpting the Senses, a traveling exhibition by @irisvanherpen . For one of the exhibition spaces called ‘Cosmic Bloom’ we created an immersive listening experience that deepens and expands the sensory impact of the work. Inside this room, a custom-made omnidirectional speaker setup envelops visitors in sound. For this immersive experience composer @sssalvadorrr teamed up with several artists, all of whom previously collaborated with Iris van Herpen; Machinedrum, Gwyneth Wentink, Thijs de Vlieger, Yarck, Maarten Vos, Casimir Geelhoed and Nick Verstand. Together, they created a holistic experience, ‘a grande finale’, where sounds unfold a colourful space, evoking the infinite, mysterious and elusive dimensions of the cosmos in dialoge with Iris van Herpen’s universe. Sculpting the Senses is on view until March 1 at @kunsthal in Rotterdam. After this, the exhibition will travel to @brooklynmuseum in New York, opening on May 16. Composition: Salvador Breed Spatialisation: Casimir Geelhoed & Salvador Breed The system features specially designed omnidirectional loudspeakers, created in collaboration with @philip.beesley . @sssalvadorrr @casimirgeelhoed @machinedrum @gwynethwentink @thysmusic @maartenvos_ @nickverstand
