African-American Sound Recordings is an artist operating in the United States
"PICÓ: Un Parlante de Africa en America" is a documentary film by @invernomuto_hq & Jim C. Nedd focusing on the Colombian tradition of Picós, heavily decorated soundsystems that animate street parties of the Costa Atlàntica.
Its history can be traced back to the 1960s, yet its roots are to be found deeper, at the time of slavery routes, when coastal cities like Barranquilla and Cartagena played a huge role as points of access in the trade. (60 mins)
Pasaporteman & Nusmaïl is a collaborative act by @babasy__ and @nusmail_ outta Jokkoo Collective.
They delves into the depths of the watery Atlantic graveyard, attempting to create sounds through their performances that give rise to landscapes and atmospheres reflecting the devastating consequences of the migrant journey. In doing so, it becomes a vindication and a call for passports that break down borders.

The artist Baba Sy, in his search, encountered the concern of music lost in the Atlantic Ocean, and stopped to investigate bodies and souls that were left along the way due to lack of documentation. He investigates the depths of the water cemetery, trying to create sounds in his performances, which gives rise to a landscape and atmosphere that reflects the dire consequences of the journey. It thus becomes a vindication and reclamation of passports that break borders. Through their performances, the African sound becomes a noizy experience and a destructive atmosphere recognizable for its intense textures, penetrating bass and unmixability.

« Richat Structure » it’s a hybrid piece that oscillates between dancehall and jungle mid tempo. A war dub riddim with aerial vocals, amen break jerky which cuts, nervous neuro bass that combines everything in a harmony found at the bottom of a crater or the cradle of an ancient lost civilization

KAJJ means throw a spear in wolof, those tracks focused on composition, where made after I feel the lack of electronic and club music coming from west Africa, and particularly from Senegal, where part of my roots are. I try to imagine and create some music that people can hear on the beach or inside a club in Dakar as you can hear a GQOM or an amapiano tracks in South Africa. Taking percussions from the mbalax as the sabar, the tama, the drum talk and using the kalimba/matepe/mbira as a melody to harmonize all this riddim I’ll try to create and ambiance of a preparation to the war or a battle with the feelings and émotions that dépends on
“GREEN” will be the preparation how they prepared weapons, I saw all the blacksmiths strike the iron and marabous making rituals and putting some gri-gri on the bodies, it is a track with a indomitable kalimba where one can feel the company of the traditional percussion used in the mbalax and an overdrived bassline, all sprinkled with a hypnotic and soft pad. "NEON" how warriors say goodbye to their family, their friends, their promises one, it is a mix of melancholia and hope, the drum talk tries to console the cries of the marimba through an escalating dialogue and “ARROW RAIN” will be definitely the first act of declaration of war, it is an hybrid techno footwork chopped by sabar patterns, with a hint of spacial exploration ambient, and saturated bassline

“Gibraltar” is a track mixing Spanish flamenco vocals, Senegalese sabar and tama drums, chords from Middle East and Maghreb. Dynamic rythm 3/4, dry breaks, noize ambient build an heritage from roots, a vision from a cosmopolitan future.
Some short clips of my dad’s garden and farm across the Mediterranean just remember me that there is still a distance and a border, so i decided to make an digital animated paint based on hyper glitch to try to deconstruct all those mental walls and barriers.
