Sharing a small personal postcard: I always return to the water. When I need to slow down, when I need to celebrate - either way I somehow find myself by the water. It’s that similar feeling when we look at the stars I guess. Our problems don’t seem as big anymore. I took a screenshot of a post that resonated and wanted to share: “Marcus Aurelius said “What are you so afraid of losing when nothing in this world belongs to you?” He was right. You have nothing to lose. Time isn’t yours. Money isn’t yours. Possessions aren’t yours. Even your closest people aren’t yours. So worry less about losing things. You don’t actually have them, and you never will. That might sound negative, but it’s actually freeing. Postcards from Carefree, AZ with @civanaresort 🌵 Sharing the intention behind each postcard. Despite having no G+E to play, what are things that you can control? What happens when you’re left with only a camera, no lights, no gimbal? These are the practices and techniques I used during this trip to try and translate the feeling of being at Civana. Thank you to Mariah and the team & @tay_blair for being in front of the lens. 1 - Center-framing, the light reflections from the pools outside the sauna felt magical, I experimented with ADR-ing her breath. 2 - Slow-motion + reverse speed the flow of water, something unnatural in the natural. 3 - Back light during sun rise, positioning yourself at a 45 between you, the subject, and the sun. 4 - Finding unusual reflections / finding foreground to create depth, shooting at sunset. 5 - Center framing, finding new shapes with our model. 6 - A sequence, CU to wide of the same action. Finding trees to naturally break up the sunlight. 7 - Sunset, finding silhouettes of the skyline. The railing created a leading line to the centre of frame. 8 - Subject soft, background sharp. Another sequence of medium + wide. Shot on a 10mm @laowa.cine + digital zoomed. 9 - De-Flicker in Davinci saved this, the banding from the LEDs was bad. Center frame, another sequence of medium to extreme wide to see the whole sequence. 10 - Finding unique perspectives and organic shapes. Back light, back light, back light. 11 - Reflections of the pool water hitting the wall, finding natural gradients. Center frame and symmetry. 12 - Extreme wides, opening with the Laowa 10mm. I wanted to show the scale of this practice room before the sound bath started. 13 - Silhouettes at sunset, expose for the sky. 14 - Shadow play. Extreme wide. Back light. 15 - Back light. 45 degrees. Graded with @videovillageco FilmBox + sound effects from @soundstripemusic
