Today is #EndangeredSpeciesDay!
We want to shine a spotlight on one of North Devon’s iconic birds—the curlew, one of the UK’s largest wading birds, now listed on the Birds of Conservation Concern ‘Red List’.
This beautiful bird, with its long curved bill and haunting call, is the UK’s largest wading bird—but it’s now on the Birds of Conservation Concern Red List.
Curlews have declined dramatically, with around half of the UK’s breeding population lost since the mid-1990s.
Here in North Devon, they depend on healthy wetlands, farmland and moorland to raise their young—but habitat loss, changing land use and increased predation mean fewer chicks survive each year.
What you can do to support Curlews
• Support farmers and land managers working to protect nature
• Respect ground-nesting birds – keep dogs under close control during breeding season
• Support local conservation projects and organisations
• Help protect and restore wetlands and wild spaces
Head over to the RSPB's website for more information and Curlew facts >

Its #NaturallyHealthyMay and what better way to celebrate than by getting outside and exploring this weekend 🌿
Naturally Healthy May is all about celebrating the power of nature to boost our wellbeing, and we can think of no better place to do that than along our North Devon coastline.
Have you ever visited Mouthmill Beach, tucked away between Clovelly and Hartland? This North Devon Coast National Landscape Top 10 is a quiet, rocky beach that offers a dramatic and secluded experience, with hidden gems such as the striking Blackchurch Rock.
Fresh sea air, wide horizons and some amazing geology make it the perfect spot to slow down, recharge and reconnect with nature. Just remember to check the tides, take care on the rocks, and leave nothing behind but footprints.

It’s officially the month of No Mow May! 🌼
For anyone with a greenspace, No Mow May is one of the easiest ways to help your local ecosystem and environment. By letting the plants in your lawn grow over the month of May, you’re giving wildflowers the chance to bloom and providing vital food for bees, butterflies and other pollinators at a time when they need it most. 🐝🦋
No lawn is too small to make a difference – even a tiny patch can help nature thrive. Plus, mowing less saves time, cuts carbon emissions and helps reconnect us with the wildlife right outside our door.
Put your mower to rest, and let it grow this May! 🌱
