Oxford House: History Exhibition
I recently partnered with @oxfordhouse1884
For a special poem to commemorate 140 years
Of London’s history, more-so the impact
Of the Somali Community over the last 100 years.
It’s brings me great pleasure to honour those who came before to continue their legacy of impact.
The first Somalis to come to the UK were the seafarers back in 1800s setting up communities in port cities across the UK.
The piece From Then Till Now,
Interweaves Somali Proverbs, sayings which say so much, common Somali custom with a poetical twist used to convey messages and meaning and the story of a people who made a new home away from home.
The exhibition is on till December so if you’re in east London check it out!!

| GLOBAL MAJORITY | ARTIST SHOWCASE |
I am truly honoured to be partnering with @houseofaeiou and @gunnersburyparkmuseum to be delivering an Exhibition showcasing over 15 Global Majority Artists from over 5 Global Regions featuring Their Stories, inspirations and providing a space to Platform Their Work.
This all started from the idea that stemmed from the question of ‘Who decides HOW to tell OUR Stories?’
For far too long Global Majority Communities have had their narratives shaped by those that live outside of their perspectives - packed into reports, articles and research projects that lack the dialogue of the very people who’s lives are being later documented and recorded as ‘History’.
OUR communities have their own Stories…
WE all have our own Lived Experiences…
ONE Story can inspire 1000’s of Lives…
| WE ARE ONE | GLOBAL MAJORITY SHOWCASE |

It Starts With…
An evermore polarising world
In a time where are seemingly more divided
day by day…
The language we use defines our world views
The words we choose to say and the silences we hold…
Things are changing in ways we could have never imaged...
May tomorrow bring a new promise that today couldn’t keep…
Thank you @sfr_daretospeak for a beauiful space to share 🙏🏿

A War of Words…
We live in an evermore polarised world…
The stories we hold shape our views…
There has always been a war of words,
A battle for every living soul and conscious mind….
Piece shared @inspyreuk words left unsaid event
Many Moments Make Meaning-Full Memories…
Alhamdulilah for the opportunity and chance to share stories and amplify spaces that allow for connection, learning & the honouring of those who stood before - upholding the innate value of human experience…
I am forever grateful to The Most High for the chance to express, exchange and collaborate with talented and amazing individuals who strive to platform people and push the boundaries of possibility to further widen perspectives…
The last few episodes of this saga have given rise to new learnings, new ways of creating & exploring which have come with many tests that have taken many forms …
I hope if anything that parts of my journey may inspire others to know that possibility lies in the patience to preserve and push even when the light in life does not shine so bright…
The world is changing, it all too often feels and is a dark place…
But…
We can do what we can to shine light, to push for change in how we exchange, engage and express…
Possibility takes many forms 🙏🏿
Thank you to all the people and amazing light bearers I have met on this journey the list is endless 🙏🏿

Here’s a roundup of The Book Bunch launch! Hosted @kunstraumlondon
A book club where black authors take centre stage & our stories are celebrated, interrogated and discussed.
For the launch we were privileged enough to be graced with a performance and q&a with BMC fave @nomadic_libaax that centered the importance of our stories existing in the world.
The book we discussed We are All Birds of Uganda, was an interesting and provocative one, but a choice we were happy to have made!
@ayeeyosblends on the drinks providing all the cozy vibes ❣️
Stay tuned for the next one insha’allah
