Ever wondered why we’re called The Five Points Project?
I said on air that was the short version… the slightly longer version was I was reading this book called On The Road by Jack Kerouac around 2016. It’s about a beat generation writer that hitchhikes around America in the 70’s.
At one point, he gets dropped off late at night on a dusty road next to the only building within the mile - an old, dilapidated, rusty looking bar.
The way that paragraph proceeded to describe, to my 17 year old mind, the interior of that blues bar, with its wooden floors, old red leather sofas and smoke in the air being guided by dancing bodies just painted such a vivid picture to me. The bar was called Five Points.
The point of that paragraph in the book (to me) was that he was once alone, but now he was one with this new space, welcomed in and now part of something he could only experience there.
I don’t know why but I mentally logged that name immediately, Five Points. From then, in my head the name has always been linked with a space where people come to lose oneself in the energy and timelessness of the room.
After we dug further into the name and understood the further significance that I’m talking about in the vid, it was pretty clear what we were going to name this thing we were building, even if at the time we didn’t really know what we were building.
Now you know 🤎
Love to @sunnyandshay on @bbclondon for having us 🫶🏾

FIVES IN THE SKY 🖐🏾
When our crowd puts their five fingers in the sky, it’s not just a sign of a good time.
It’s a joint action to signal openness, connection and belief in a mission that’s bigger than any single person.
The world around us is becoming increasingly isolated, and we want to serve as a space to combat that in every way we can.
We are a home for collective and we stand for a world that puts togetherness first. We stand against those who don’t believe this.
If you want to stand together with us in these times of isolation, come into the room with us.
Next event - this Sat 16th May at @the.bath.house.hw
See you then.

You can’t fake this 🙂↕️
I’ve been having a lot of conversations about the future of our industry recently, and how AI is going to impact our scene.
Although there are huge negatives to it, I really believe that out of these negative movements positive coiner movements will surface shine through.
The importance of live music in spaces like these will only deepen as the years go on.
They’ll come to represent protest against a growth that none of us asked for, holding a space for united community, even more than they do now.
We’re going to do everything we can to push that message forward. If you want to do the same, come check out events and support the future you want to see.
Big love,
Max
