We’re LIVE BABY! I’m so excited that my talk from TEDxTufts is now publicly available to view on the TEDx YouTube channel. Thank you to @tedx_official and @tedxtufts for this transformative opportunity. Go forth, and utilize design thinking!
Coming off of a birthday weekend (new year, a new me) so we’re making some changes around here - a new headshot (thank you @marimcmurdock ), website updates, and a newsletter (which you can sign up for on my website sophiadayart.com) Looking forward to going on this journey with everyone in the year ahead 🌷
Happy to announce that the end of days, the Lisa Frank Apocalypse is coming to @artisansasylum for their “Absurdity” show! Come say hi at the opening on 3/6 💕🔥🦄 (image detail: “Pink Eschaton,” oil on canvas, 2022)
Is it hot in here, or is it just me? 😜 “Getting Warmer” at @eastmanningprojects opened this weekend, and I’m so excited to see this lil guy alongside such great other work. If you’re down in the Ocean State, stop by and check it out!
“Doubting Smuckers”
Acrylic on canvas, 2026
Re-learning how to use acrylics to teach a class this semester. It’s maybe been 15 years since I’ve used them? Review: overall, not terrible. Now back to our regularly scheduled oil painting program :) (Swipe: he’s a little guy)
Finally putting this one to rest (get it?)
Catacomb Vanitas, oil on canvas, 18x24”
(I can honestly say that I learned a lot from this piece, and my residency from Chautauqua this summer as a whole. It’s not my favorite painting, but it definitely represents a turning point for me as an artist. I’m realizing that I need to fall back in love with painting and to maybe listen to my advisor’s advice to finally get weird with it. One of my professors at SAIC said that it was unrealistic to deal with messy subject matter and expect a resolved artwork, so here’s to a messy studio in 2026.)

Boston can be a tough place for emerging artists, but it’s also one of the most vibrant communities that I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of. It’s a city of students, young artists, and creatives cutting their teeth and willing to think outside of the box to make their way in the art world. As much as I love this scene, I was tired seeing the same names and the same venues featured over and over again, and I was tired of not seeing this community, my community, represented, so I started a little side project. Introducing: Beantown Beat - Covering Boston’s Emerging, DIY, and Artist-Run Scene. I made this online blog, platform, thing(?) for fellow artists and creatives, and I want to feature your voice (it can’t just be my single posts, also swipe if you want to read the first installment of my Art Etiquette Guide)! Read more at beantownbeat.com to see what we’re looking for and if you have an idea, send it over to [email protected]. Can’t wait to see what you’re thinking about, and expect a formal submission call early next year :)

Earlier this month we wrapped up Dog Eat Dog Houses! We’re so grateful to @artpcgboston for hosting us and our community partners @sweetpawsrescue and The Housing Innovation Lab @bostonofficeofhousing for creating public programming with us.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the show, check out these photos by @chrisdiani !
