Meet Fatima, fearless leader of Radio Kalunguiera, a community and territorial communication project, in the heart if the Kalunga Quilombo Territory in Cavalcante, Brazil.
Supported by Agami Records, it's programming is focused on valuing the Kalunga culture, education, ancestro and rights advocacy.
Rádio Kalungueira gives voice to oral knowledge, to youth, to the elderly, to women, and to quilombola leadership. Its programs include debates, interviews, traditional music, storytelling, health bulletins, and news from the countryside and city, among others.
More than a radio, Kalungueira is a tool for empowerment, political articulation, and identity affirmation. Currently, the project fights for institutional recognition and support to expand its structure, with the aim of becoming Brazil’s first territorial community radio, reaching the municipalities of Cavalcante, Monte Alegre de Goiás, and Teresina de Goiás.
Rádio Kalungueira is made by and for the Kalunga people, because communication is also territory, a right, and resistance.
