@nickhadfield_ & some heartache sing-alongs around the piano.
‘A Valentine Cabaret’ takes as its starting point Thomas Nashe’s notorious Renaissance poem, The Choosing of Valentines, Or the Merry Ballad of Nash and His Dildo (1592): a witty, subversive Valentine’s day tale, set in a brothel, about unruly desire, invention and women’s pleasure – widely recognised as the poem that introduced the word ‘dildo’ into English.
The adapted version features six original songs with live vocals, live keyboard, costumes that evoke decadent pleasure houses and experimental instrumentation, channeling the theatrical excess of Renaissance music and the sly camp of contemporary cabaret
Salon Obscura was conceived by
@nickhadfield_ for The Groucho Club.
