We started a band! Founded by UK music veteran Nick DeCosemo — former Mixmag Editor, SXM Festival co-founder and co-founder of social impact org The Great Oven — alongside Johannesburg multidisciplinary artist and DJ Hlengiwe Sewela (OkayHlengi), the collective bridges continents, genres and generations. Their debut album “The Other Side Of Living” is the result: 12 tracks, nearly 20 years in the making, featuring 30+ artists from across the globe — a tonal tapestry of electronica, live performance and timeless songwriting. @thecradlecrew_ is a group of young performers from the Cradle Of Humankind, Johannesburg. This weekend they will play A Concert For Water at NIROX Sculpture Park, curated by @djbob206 . Formed via global social impact organisation @thegreatoven , Crew members are drawn from underserved communities in the Kromdraai area of The Cradle – and use the arts to promote personal empowerment, community cohesion and cross cultural exchange. Almost one year ago to the day, The Cradle Crew played one of their very first shows at Cradle Gathering – an international celebration of music, dance, food and community at The Kromdraai Impact Shed. This one day event featured acclaimed contemporary classical composer @arthur_jeffes (Penguin Cafe), world-renowned ballet and contemporary dance legend Cristina Perera ( @choreocristina ), plus celebrated South African DJs @blankamazimela and @il1ing - and a community feast cooked by Great Oven fo-founder @j_gomez_thompson and local Kromdraaai farmer @bigjoe6388 .
