I’m writing on Substack 🧚🏾 3500 words on who benefits from declaring African genres dead? Tracing Amapiano’s evolution through industry panic, shifts in DJ culture and survival economics. Genres don’t die, they transform. Today we stand at an exciting global cross-collaboration of South African genres; how do we not repeat the same mistakes in a new era?
I’m playing an intimate all night long set this Friday, details were shared in my “first DJ set of the year” substack. See you there 🧚🏾
Abantu Means People is the manifesto. It is (in part) my version of For Us By Us, and can only be so if the people are a part of informing what and how we build. That’s what these dinners are about. Bringing together the people who consistently buy tickets to dance with us, the people whose hands, gifts and stories make this all possible. We’ll be doing these throughout the year, alongside the parties.

And let me tell you… Morning Sun to Angel Whispers is a hell of a sequence! If you have a keen ear, you’ll pick up on the texture that follows through in both songs 🧚🏾
@abantu.world if you’re not on our mailing list, now is as great a time as ever 🫂
I asked @charisseec to educate me on Amapiano, it’s rise, what happens when people call it dead and the link between South Africa’s house music movements and the commercial entity known as ‘Afro House’

Angel Whispers is out now 🥹 3 years in the making and it’s still undeniable. May listening to this song be one of the things you do on this fine Friday 🧚🏾

Two worlds, one soul. ✨
Angel Whispers is the sound of finding light in the dark. A spontaneous session in SA turned into a journey across continents with @kwxmzy , @charisseec , @infrallectual and some guitar chords from @later_d3nzl .
From a heavy headspace to a celebration of life, this one is special to us.
Out this Friday. Pre-save link in bio. 🌬️💙🇿🇦🇬🇧
