Thrilled, a wee bit shell shocked really, overwhelmed and extremely grateful that ‘Through a Looking Glass Darkly’ has won the Heysen Landscape Prize’ 2024! Huge thankyou to Heysen Prize and sponsors this award will support and grow my practice in exciting trajectories. Thankyou to Hahndorf Academy Rachel and team @rachelmcelwee such an amazing install and judges Maria Zagala @mariazagala and Andrew Purvis @central.gallery_ what a difficult task. Congratulations to all the finalists there are so many artists in this exhibition that I truly admire thank you for your inspiring creativity. Congratulations to highly commended Heather Watson @pottypryor and @foubisterjohn Stunning works ‘Through a Looking Glass Darkly’ is a personal struggle to orient oneself in a changing environment and an attempt to portray the destabilised disjointed nature and time we are experiencing. Created for the recent @neoteric_projects_sa 🙏 @contemporayray I appreciate and grateful for the strong supportive art community in SA

The last performance of our Finissage was Adam & Steve performing a new site-specific work, Ritual for a Rhombus, which marked the decommissioning of Matt Huppatz’s installation Money for Painting. As Adam and Steve took the work apart the audience had the opportunity to view the manifestation machine at the centre of the work. The performance ended with the last of 4 chimes turning off all lights. Thank you Adam and Steve. Adam and Steve is Adam Birchmore and Matt Huppatz. @mateuswiedehopf @albertadamsteve 📷 @samrophoto

Kirsty Martinsen's Bodiness: Neoterica; was the 5th performance of a wonderful Finissage afternoon. Be quiet, breathe and look. The audience was corralled into a sectioned off area, while Kirsty looked at the works in one half of the exhibition and then at the audience. Kirsty would have better words to describe the concepts behind this performance but the images give an idea. Very powerful and interesting work, thank you Kirsty and your team. @kirstymartinsen 📷@samrophoto

Tristan Louth-Robins Self Diffusion was a live extrapolation of his Self Noise installation in Neoterica, drawing on sonic and sculptural motifs of the work, the entrance seen behind him in some shots. ( black curtain) Thank you Tristan! @tristanlouthrobins Photos @samrophoto .

The next performance was Paul Gazzola's interactive Trade-Up. A performance about the relationship between value and trade. What constitutes equal value in the exchange of an object for another. As part of the Gold Coin Series. Audience traded items and their stories through Paul, from a single cat hair to stamps, gloves, jewellery and much more. Thank you Paul for a fun, engaging, exchange. @mrgazzola Photos @samrophoto

Next was The Renaming Station by Emma Beech. A conversational piece, where three questions were asked to participants in order to re-name the work from the exhibition that spoke to them the most. Emma then presented her findings of these conversations and renamings to the audience. Images of renaming notes courtesy of Emma, other images @samrophoto @emm_beech Thank you Emma!

Where does our public life end and our private life start and is it all for sale? Thank you Emiko! @emikoartemis 📷 @samrophoto
