We’ve officially been accepted into the @austinfilmfest 🎉🤙🏼! Such an honor to share the stories of these brave artists — all the flowers and praise go to them; we’re just lucky enough to share their stories. I came up with the idea for this film after I EP’d and directed a live performance with @nationaloperaukraine in Orlando in 2022, which raised over $800,000 USD for @unicef @razom.for.ukraine and @olenazelenska_official foundation. That project had the honor of airing nationally on @pbs and taking home an EMMY. And the result of that project was that we had the chance to get our press credentials and head to war to share the real stories of brave artists refusing to be silenced. In March, we traveled to the red light district of Kolkata, India to document the work of Mahima. Mahima is an organization on the frontlines of protecting some of the most vulnerable children... minor victims of sex trafficking and those in desperate need of care and protection. What we witnessed was not just rescue, but the long, process of restoration: building trust, creating safety, and giving children the chance to reclaim their futures. This story matters, and we feel deeply grateful to help bring it to light. #FridayFilmBreak 🎞️ A new documentary from @theadrenalinefilms , “The Sky Was on Fire: Ballet and War in Ukraine,” follows National Ballet of Ukraine stage director Oleh Tokar and other ballet artists who had to make a difficult decision after the Russian invasion of Ukraine: to flee or to stay to fight—and also to perform. Tokar, one of many Ukrainian ballet artists who have taken up arms in the fight against Russia, continues to work for National Ballet of Ukraine by day. The film had an exclusive premiere at the National Opera House of Ukraine earlier this month and will debut at the @floridafilmfest on April 16, with a second screening on April 20. Conceived by co-director Jonathan Maricle (@neckerchief ), with additional direction by Joan Finn Adkison, the 95-minute film was produced by Julie Meyer (@stagemanagerbarbie ) and Adrenaline Films founder Michael Murray.
