Beyond excited to be in conversation with the brilliant Adrienne Keene @nativeapprops on Thursday December 5th from 1-2pm PST / 4-5pm EST on Zoom! Adrienne is the author of the book "Notable Native People," co-creator of the podcast "All My Relations" @amrpodcast and was a reader of an early draft of the Country Queers book (alongside @ebonysouthernbelle and @sapogonia at the manuscript workshop @haymarketbooks held in Chicago in the Fall of 2023. The book is so much stronger because of all of their feedback and support!) Hosted by @annenberglab this event is free and open to the public. Link to RSVP in bio.

This week we were able to teach our little learners about Native Americans and their importance 🧡 In addition to the library (which was a little lacking indigenous stories) we had a great book by @nativeapprops that we broke down for our preschoolers to teach them about seed keepers, food justice advocates and sculpture artists ❤️ Our students enjoyed learning more about practices that we already incorporate, different cultures they might not be familiar with and their friends giving feast! #nativeamerican #indegenouspeople #inclusion #diversity

🤎 Native American Heritage Month🤎 Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the vibrant cultures, traditions, and heritages of Native peoples while also recognizing their many contributions and bringing light to the suffering that they continue to endure to this day. While today, Thanksgiving Day, is widely known as a day of celebration for those in the US, it is a day of mourning and remembrance for Native peoples. Yes, we can spend time with friends and family and be grateful for the things that we have, but we should also bring awareness and help uplift the voices of Native American and Indigenous peoples. I've included a list of books by Indigenous authors to read all year round! I've also included a list of some Indigenous owned publishers and independent bookstores to support. *I also want to acknowledge that while Native American and Indigenous are often used interchangeably, Native American is used to refer to peoples living within what is now the United States prior to European contact, and Indigenous is a broader term that refers to those peoples with pre-existing sovereignty who were living together as a community prior to contact with settler populations. There are Indigenous peoples on every continent throughout the world. Authors that couldn't be tagged: -To Shape A Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose -Godly Heathens by @heedgmon -Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange -An Afro-Indigenous History of the United States by Kyle T. Mays -Saints of the Household by @aritisonwrites -A Constellation of Minor Bears by @jdotferg -The Unfinished by Cheryl Isaacs -Stealing Little Moon by Dan Sasuweh Jones -Murder on the Red River by Marcie R. Rendon -From the Ashes by Jesse Thistle -Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson ✨️QOTD: Have you read any books by an Indigenous author? #nativeamericanheritagemonth #nativeamericanheritage #indigenousheritage #diversereads #indigenousauthors #thanksgiving #indigenousbooks #bookrecs

The Word Of the Week: Maize 🌽 This week it was important for @livelearnplay_ot to teach the preschoolers all about Indigenous people and their traditions! So each activity we created focused on a Native American and their specific skills 🎨 This amazing book by @nativeapprops taught the preschoolers about Sculptors, Farmers & Seed Keepers 😮 It was a great week to create and learn all at the same time!
