The Strauch Hypercube at @UCberkeleyofficial ’s Grimes Engineering Center, is composed of two nested cubes, defined by 46,000 points of light arranged in a 3-dimensional Cartesian grid. Reflective pixel-like particles emanate from its core to catch bits of the light across a wider field.

Strauch Hypercube Timeline
Last year we were honored to receive a commission from the Mosse Foundation to create an artwork for the new UC Berkeley Grimes Engineering Center. The Strauch Hypercube is an algorithm-driven system, pulling from generative pattern forming simulations such as Conway’s Game of Life, Fluid Dynamics and Chladni Figures to continuously reshape the visual output.

Let there be light! 💡
“The Strauch Hypercube” lit up the Grimes Engineering Center during our Dean’s Society event tonight. This installation is a visual representation of the relationship between exploration, innovation and community — and unlike anything else on campus.
Made possible through the generosity of brothers Roger and Hans Strauch, trustees of the Mosse Foundation, and the creative vision of sculptor Susan Narduli.
In 2023, MAD Arts and @madlabsstudios had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with artist and architect Susan Narduli of @nardulistudio on the media and VR environment for Datum Line.
Straddling the physical and virtual worlds, this site-specific installation was designed to envelop viewers in a cinematic narrative of place and time in which the unceasing forces underlying global sea levels became the creative energy behind multi-sensory immersive visuals. Simultaneously launched in Venice, Italy, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the project created a technology bridge between two cities geographically disconnected and seemingly unrelated. But climate change is blind to human constructs of culture and borders, and these two low-lying regions are among the most vulnerable to changing sea levels. Fueled by geospatial datasets, animations, and digital constructions, Datum Line became a window into the indeterminate landscape of climate change.
We look forward to taking on more collaborations and projects that convey such meaningful themes and stretch the limits of human imagination.

Approximately 1,000,000 pixels line the walls and ceiling, upon which the ever-changing rhythms of the City of Charlotte are reimagined as an immersive environment of abstract animations.

Our project LIGHT PAINTING recently installed in the Santa Monica City Hall East Building. The 3-story field of dichroic glass is activated by sunlight, causing a constant unfolding of color and pattern. Just like a sundial, LIGHT PAINTING reflects time of day and season. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

On our way to Venice Italy for the preview opening of our project Datum Line for Time Space Existence, the European Cultural Centre’s Biennale Architecture Exhibit.
This project references the datum line, the theoretical line used to measure shifts in sea levels by the rise and fall of the tides. It consists of two experiences - one real world, one virtual - fueled by a stream of climate data that produces variations of animations and digital constructions. Together they create a cinematic narrative of place and time. In Datum Line, the unceasing fluctuations of the profound forces underlying global sea level change are the creative energy that generate multi sensory immersive visuals.
