NANCY PHANTOM

Before the band was formed, in a conversation with Ärkan, Sara misheard and misspelt a name that came to be Nancy Phantom. To our surprise, four years later, Ärkan found that it was a real person that is now buried in Liverpool. From reading the origins of this name, we now believe we have been visited by ghosts of time... The surname Phantom, probably a nickname from Middle English fantasie in one of its senses e.g. ‘phantom', 'ghost', 'desire', 'caprice', 'whim’, has intriguing historical roots that can be traced back to various cultural contexts, often associated with the concept of illusion or the supernatural. While the exact origins of the surname are somewhat elusive, it is believed to have emerged in English-speaking regions, possibly during the medieval period when surnames began to be adopted more widely. The term phantom itself derives from the Greek word phantasma, meaning appearance or ghost, which suggests that those who bore the surname may have been linked to occupations or roles that involved storytelling, performance, or even the supernatural. Over time, the surname may have evolved to reflect the characteristics or skills of its bearers, perhaps indicating a family known for their theatrical talents or a connection to folklore.
