With our fermentation workshop launch, we were thrilled to see how quickly the spots filled up, but we have a FEW SPACES left for this Sunday, the 5th of April!
For everyone who joins: we can guarantee it will be a very special afternoon spent with our team, a group of people with a passion for creating in the kitchen 🥕 Our dear chefs Leo and Hamish, will teach you how to make food last, gain new flavour profiles and get some healthy bacteria onto your plate 🥗

Not too long ago we moved from a (illegal) restaurant in an office building to a large empty hall, a former factory (thanks to @desloot.amsterdam !. We had almost no money, very little experience, and very little sense.
What followed was a year where we tried to learn and grow as quickly as possible. We got better every month, TestTafel and De Sering are to this day often unrecognisable if there is more than 2 months between your visits.
What we did not expect is to get a review in the biggest newspaper in the country! It often feels to us like we are still in that office building, cooking for friends and friends of friends. A secret restaurant isolated from the rest of the country. You can imagine our surprise when @joel.broekaert came by for a visit!
He wrote a wonderful review that captures all the weird quirks of TestTafel and De Sering. Our social purpose, our egalitarian model, the pressure we put on ourselves to make a new menu every week. Our favourite quote? He describes us as “kraakie, maar niet cracky” We immediately took the rattiest t-shirt we could find and got it on there (Hats and more t-shirts will follow for sure :P).
The review ends with something we will take as a little challenge. Joel noted that when it comes to refinement we have some ways to go. Our answer is that at the rate we are learning and growing, TestTafel will be unrecognisable in 6 months. He will come back in a year to see where we are at, we promise him and you that we will meet the challenge! We are extremely excited for the upcoming year, and we hope all of you will come along for the ride! As he writes in the review “35 euro is of course no money for seven courses, you can come by every week and see what they have thought up now”.
The pictures are some snippets we like. Our second most favourite quote? “de mahalabia (Midden-Oosterse melkpudding) zit verdomd goed in elkaar. Deze vegan variant (van kokosmelk met maizena) is fluweelzacht, bijna erotisch glibberig van structuur.”
