Proof of life grid post. I've been over-occupied recently with various: - Elder kid started school 🎒 - Produced some favourite artists, from solo instrument to concerto recordings 🎻 - Bought a house 🏡 - Produced a pop cover for a documentary 🎬 - After 6 years of not-subtle hints, got engaged 💍 - Recording projects in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Watford, Birmingham 🎼 - Bit off more editing work than I could chew [still chewing, thanks everyone for bearing with] 😬 - Booked in some exciting concert video recordings with Zip Tie Studio 🎥 - Moved family into new house 📦 - Got into diy 🛠️ - Signed off on various albums for release next year 📀 Not quite coming up for air yet – many exciting things in the works and The Pile Of Editing stares ominously among still-full boxes.   Pic 1 of me producing at BBC SSO taken by @foxbrush_films Music: Alexandra Tirsu with RPO and Vasily Petrenko, recorded by me last year with K&A Productions, out now!

Behind the scenes with producer Matthew Swan during the recording of Ronald Stevenson: Piano Music, Volume 8 for Toccata Classics with pianist Christopher Guild. It will be a programme in homage to Percy Grainger which directly follows on from the previous CD, also recorded at Wyastone (2023, released 2024). Recording release date will be announced for late 2025/early 2026. @mswan_audio #music #producer #recording #studiorecording #concerthall #musician #piano #pianist #recordingstudio #MatthewSwan #RoalStevenson #ToccataClassics #ChristopherGuild #PercyGrainger

Spent a great day recording with guitarist @sashasavaloni last week 🎸✨ We got through a lot of rep, incl Renaissance, 20th, and 21st-century pieces in the stunning Crichton Collegiate Church, a space that never disappoints. Now onto editing—looking forward to making it all come together 🔍✂️

James McVinnie's album Dreamcatcher is released today on Pentatone. I had the pleasure of recording the organ works that make up half the album (the other half being piano works recorded at Studio Richter Mahr). We recorded over two evenings at St Albans Cathedral last May. Being in this massive, legendary cathedral after dark and hearing Muhly, Monk, Swayne etc was very atmospheric and special. I'm very pleased with the result. Organs and cathedrals (especially this one) are so massive that you can overthink where to place microphones - there are so many options compared to other acoustic instruments. What you capture has to sound big aaand detailed in both headphones and speakers. We landed on four pairs on the floor either side of the organ (see my v crude "plan") and a pair in the organ loft for detail. Jamie did the edit and finished the mix himself - it sounds fantastic. If you're into listening to stuff, please try Giles Swayne's Riff-raff. This is the first ever recording on the organ it was written for and the registrations (and their changes!) are incredible. Swipe to hear some playback tests of the Muhly - even unmixed on my little KRKs it sounds huge - then catch Jamie's thoughts on the process. Thank you @jmcvinnie for asking me to be part of this project, to @kanda_productions for the big stands (!) and to @pentatonemusic for releasing this special album.

Still reeling from an unreal time at Real World Studios last week capturing a stunning premiere recording from Freya Goldmark. Co-produced with Erland Cooper and engineered by the wonderful Katie May. Looking forward to getting stuck into the edit 👀

Feels good to see two releases in the shortlist for the @gramophonemagazine Awards 2024! 💽 @seanstshibe - Profesión for @pentatonemusic - Producer and editor 💽 @thecbso + choir and soloists, Martyn Brabbins - Stanford Requiem Op. 63 for @hyperionrecords - Assistant engineer Pics: 6 - Symphony Hall, Birmingham immediately before setting up the mics 7 - Control room with the rest of the recording team - @timburton7128 Phil Rowlands and Andrew Keener 8 - Control room for second set of Profesión sessions - setup by Oscar Torres 9 - I always take an editing project on the road in case I have time/energy to do it at night. This is in the middle of editing at 3.16am in a Glasgow hotel room 10 - Milo came to the first set of Profesión sessions - good walks during breaks

Great to be back at Henry Wood Hall last week, engineering on the mighty @kanda_productions rig prepared by the masterful @debzos @alexandra.tirsu played the 1717 'Reiffenberg' Stradivarius, a treat to record with a pair of Schoeps MK21 and Coles 4038 ribbon mics. @vasily__petrenko conducted the @royalphilorchestra with typical finesse. Keep an eye out for the release 👀
