What a year for our amazing @msoa_craft tutor and alumni @erumaamir.ceramics with her collection of ceramics which draw together her scientific background and her artistic heart with a work ethic like no other to create work that intrigues and amazes.
This week she is showing as part of the fantastic @ceramicartlondon and next week is part of the (not so) secret ceramics auction @sothebys
This follows her impressive show @collectartfair with @ruup.and.form and her work @homofaber in Italy. And thats just 2026....
Erum does all this alongside supporting our L4 Craft students in exploring materials and making - with grace and a smile!
Thanks Erum!!
Anyone in London this weekend or next, make sure to get over to CAL or Sothebys to experience her beautiful work in person.
A fantastic end of year L4 Student exhibition. @projectunitx 'Micro and Macro' module Led by @erumaamir.ceramics explored the @mcrmuseum collections. Through meticulous observation, students explored pattern, repetition, surface texture, fragment, structure, etc, considering how those elements operate across scales and across natural, man-made, and hybrid objects. The Unit encouraged a dialogue between the empirical and the aesthetic, blending careful scientific observation with creative interpretation.
+ The date for submissions has been extended to Friday 15th May+

This is a fabulous opportunity to exhibit at the first Manchester Jewellery Week and will give a platform to graduates transitioning from academic study to professional practice, supporting visibility, connection and engagement with new audiences.
Cotton to Graphene: Manchester Jewellery Week
10th - 16th September 2026
Cotton to Graphene is an exhibition open to UK jewellers graduating from 2021 to 2026 in celebration of Manchester’s inaugural Jewellery Week. This exhibition will be held in Manchester Metropolitan University’s exhibition space next to the Holden Gallery.
From the first mechanised looms to splitting the atom and the isolation of graphene, Manchester has always been defined by innovation, progressive thinking and creativity across multiple disciplines that has changed the world. Artists are invited to submit their own ideas of how jewellery and small objects might illustrate the character of the city’s layered heritage and pioneering spirit in a conceptual or direct interpretation.
Works may engage with themes associated with the city, which might include, but are not restricted to: mechanisation, transport, mass production, labour movements, counterculture, music, discovery or a combination.
A broad range of materials and approaches is welcomed: precious, reclaimed, objet trouve, textiles, industrial, wearable, conceptual, or video to reflect Manchester’s enduring spirit of experimentation, reinvention and ingenuity.

A few weeks ago we had the brilliant Nicola Ellis visit, giving the BA and MA Craft, MA Textiles and MA Fine Art students generous insight to her practice, projects, networks and collectives.
What a great example of how a practice focused on people, skill and making can cross disciplinary boundaries and reveal value.
Thank you Nicola!
You can see Nicolas work @homemcr until 17th May.

This week, our Level 5 students visited the impressive @yorkminsterofficial Centre of Excellence for Heritage Craft Skills and Estate Management. The newly established facilities bring together world-class stonemasonry and cutting-edge technology, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation can complement each other.
Students had the opportunity to speak directly with the stonemasons about their individual journeys and observe their remarkable hand skills in action. They were also given a tour of the Centre’s advanced digital cutting equipment, guided by Laura, Luke, and Paul.
Thank you again for such an inspirational day and we thoroughly encourage everyone to visit during their next heritage open day.

Fantastic handling session today with @mcrmetspecial for our L5 students exploring a sample of the Material, Process and Innovation collection.
The @mcrmetspecial is an unique resource for all @manmetuni students to view and handle pieces of art, craft design that usually would be behind a vitrine.
A world class resource literally at the fingertips of our Craft students.
