Today, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously adopted my ordinance banning all City employees from taking outside employment with ICE, DHS, and CBP. Our City’s workforce should reflect our values. This is about trust, accountability, and ensuring every employee is fully committed to serving Angelenos.

As the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants—whose father worked in the fields as a young man—I feel deeply the pain our community is carrying right now. This moment is heavy, but it is also a reminder that the labor and civil rights movements are bigger than any one person. These movements belong to the farmworkers, labor organizers, and families who have fought every day for dignity, respect, and justice.

Honored to speak this week with students in the UCLA MRED program for an engaging and energizing conversation about the future of real estate and urban development. We explored how public policy, planning, and investment decisions intersect—and how those choices shape equity, opportunity, and quality of life across our communities. Grateful for the opportunity to share insights from my experience in public service and to exchange ideas with students who are clearly committed to making a meaningful impact in the field. Conversations like these reinforce the importance of bridging policy and practice as we work together to build more inclusive, sustainable communities for the future.

🌟 Yesterday was a special day as we celebrated the LA Conservation Corps’ 40th Anniversary Luncheon alongside friends, partners, supporters, and Corpsmembers, past and present. Thank you to everyone who joined us to hear powerful stories of resilience, growth, and impact, and to celebrate our inspiring honorees: Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez (@mrodcd7 ), County Parks Director Norma Garcia-Gonzalez (@lacountyparks ), and Niagara Cares (@niagaracares ). We are also deeply grateful to Mayor Karen Bass (@mayorofla ) for joining us to celebrate this important milestone. Our new CEO, Tamara Muzac-Bravo, Ph.D., delivered inspiring remarks that honored the Corps’ rich history while casting a bold vision for the future. Because of your generosity and support, the funds raised will help empower Corpsmembers, strengthen communities, and sustain the environment. Thank you for being part of this unforgettable celebration. We hope you enjoy these photos from a memorable afternoon celebrating 40 years of impact. #40years #CorpsLuncheon

Before ➡️ After: Improving accessibility and connectivity for the community. The Hubbard & Dronfield improvements bring new ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgraded pedestrian access to help create safer, more accessible pathways for residents, families, and all who travel through the corridor. Proud to partner with CD7 to deliver infrastructure improvements that enhance quality of life and strengthen neighborhood connectivity. #AtYourService @lacitydpw @mrodcd7 #losangeles #sylmar #sanfernandovalley

The last thing Angelenos need is a ban on hosting a carne asada in their own backyards. That’s why I led the charge to successfully vote down today’s proposed barbecue ban in residential neighborhoods and will continue standing up against tone-deaf policies that unfairly target neighborhood gatherings and long-standing community traditions.

This is Susana’s story! While in Delano, I spoke with Susana, a member of the United Farm Workers, and heard how dangerous conditions are part of everyday life in the fields. I appreciate her for sharing her experience with me. I’m honored to continue championing the voices of the women I met. More stories coming soon.

Our small businesses are the heart of our district ❤️ I had the chance to visit and celebrate a few incredible spots in Pacoima: La Cocinita Restaurant, a 22-year old staple serving authentic Mexican cuisine, and El Pulgarcito, a beloved Salvadoran restaurant known for their pan con pollo and strong community support. Local businesses are essential to our neighborhoods. They invest in our community, create jobs, and help keep our neighborhoods strong every day. Thank you to the staff and owners for welcoming us!

The City of Los Angeles is hosting the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games, and our small businesses should benefit from the procurement opportunities they bring. I’m calling on LA28 to guarantee that our City’s small businesses are prioritized in contracts tied to the Games.
