"In Search of a Haven" by @mrnsolis and @hammoud_3000
In Search of a Haven is a socio-political critique that questions the inequalities inherent in set systems, speculating on a future where identification serves as a tool for liberation rather than control.
The concept of identity is deconstructed into four distinct realms: physical, digital, memory, and prospection. The project proposes that a “true” identity emerges at the intersection of these four dimensions.
The exhibition features an installation that encapsulates this research by mapping perceptions of identity onto a multilayered map. Each realm is represented on a separate panel, which, when layered together, creates a comprehensive map of personal identity that reflects the identities of two individuals at a specific moment in time.
The installation is accompanied by a book that includes the research, personal stories, and conclusions of the project.

This project allowed me to explore many ongoing themes in my life and instead of speaking directly about them I'll leave you with a quote from Gloria Anzaldúa (thank you @ludelossantos7 for showing me this excerpt, I had never felt so understood).
"Until I am free to write bilingually and to switch codes without having always to translate, while I still have to speak English or Spanish when I would rather speak Spanglish, and as long as I have to accommodate the English speakers rather than having them accommodate me, my tongue will be illegitimate."

In Search of a Haven critiques and reimagines how we understand identity within today’s sociopolitical landscape. Through our research and conceptual process, we deconstructed the concept of identity into four distinct realms: physical, digital, memory, and prospection. We argue that a “true” identity emerges at the intersection of these four dimensions.
Our final exhibition presents an installation that encapsulates this research by mapping our own perceptions of identity onto a multilayered map. Each realm is represented on a separate panel, which are all then layered to create a comprehensive personal identity map, reflecting our identities at that specific moment in time. We chose to merge both of our maps, symbolizing our shared experience in the world and our collaborative creative process. The intersections of our experiences reveal themselves differently depending on the viewer’s perspective, offering a different view from each angle.
Accompanying the installation is a printed map key, guiding attendees through the graphic elements, revealing our personal narrative that is visually encoded on the panels.

Excited to share with you our master thesis project for @thisisbeyondbranding , titled “In Search of a Haven”
The project was born out of countless thoughts and conversations about the Queen Boat, the Tijuana & San Diego border, Melanosomes, map projections, identity, memories that never happened, and Dys-Utopian futures.
“In Search of a Haven” is a socio-political critique, questioning the inequalities of our current identification systems by speculating a future where identification paves the way for liberation rather than being a tool of control.
