🌟 FRED VARLEY SCHOOL • MARKHAM, ONTARIO 🌟
Grade 7 • Classes• York Region District School Board
Truly honoured to have been invited to Fred Varley Public School in Markham Ontario 🇨🇦 to share the Moses Filter journey with such bright, curious, and engaged Grade 7 students. 🙌🏽✨
Our presentation explored the full story — the backstory, challenges, motivation, and real-world impact of our work — and how each of us can make a meaningful difference in our environment and communities. 🌎💧
A huge highlight:
Did you know the City of Markham has over 20,000 catch basins? 🤯🌧️
This fun fact helped us connect local action to global responsibility, linking Markham to places like Australia🇦🇺, the USA 🇺🇲, and Sweden🇸🇪 Our curriculum covers communities across Canada, reminding students that environmental stewardship is both local and universal.
From hands-on visuals, field photos, prototypes, municipal engineering references, and a short Moses Filter video — the goal was simple: show students that innovation is for everyone. You don’t have to be an engineer to observe, question, and create solutions that matter.
Thank you to Ms. Chu, the administrators, and especially the incredible students who made this day so special. Your energy, questions, and enthusiasm were inspiring. 🙏🏽💙
Looking forward to many more opportunities to empower youth through STEAM, storytelling, and real-world environmental learning.

🌟 WOW! What an unforgettable day at the 2025 Girls and STEAM Summit! 🌟
Presented by @stemcelltechnologies and hosted at the incredible @scienceworldca — so many left feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to take on the world of STEAM. ✨
First and foremost, a tremendous thank you to the amazing team at @scienceworldca Your support, advocacy, and encouragement made this opportunity possible. My team and I are truly grateful. 🙏💛
Issy Worrall - You are a Hero!
To the wonderful educators who lit up the entire experience — Patrice Jefferson (@iampatricejefferson ), Katie (@katelinkelsberg )and the ambassadors — THANK YOU. Your energy and guidance shaped unforgettable moments for every participant.
Girls aged 12–14 connected with our Moses Filter Drain Team educators from all backgrounds and levels of expertise — passionate individuals driving change every day. It was powerful to watch these young minds see STEAM in action, ask questions, and envision themselves in these spaces.
So many future scientists walked away with a spark — discovering how an idea can grow into something unstoppable. That inspiration, that determination, is exactly what we hope to ignite.
Participants also enjoyed a phenomenal keynote from Aerospace Engineer Dr. Farah Alibay (@trifarahtops ), who shared her journey from a small Quebec town to space exploration — proving that dreams grow wherever courage does.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners who helped bring this transformative day to life:

🌧🍂 “Run-Off Leaves!” — Now available on Amazon 📘
As Vancouver enters its heaviest rain season, we’re reminded of the silent journey leaves take — carrying a season’s worth of broken-down waste straight into our storm drains.
Our Moses Filter team is on the ground right now, cleaning and monitoring filters in real time, ensuring this runoff doesn’t end up in our rivers and ocean. 🌊
This year, our mission inspired the creation of our new book: "Run-Off Leaves"
A creative look at how nature’s own adhesives and camouflage reveal the unseen impact of urban runoff on our ecosystems.
We’re proud to share that together, we’ve helped parted over 5.5 billion microplastic particles from entering our waters. 💧
Let’s keep our drains clear, our communities aware, and our planet thriving. 🌎

🌊🐊 Moses Filter Drain Team x Walnut Grove Secondary 🐊🌊 GATOR X
We’re excited to launch the C.O.U.L.D. Initiative at Walnut Grove Secondary through the GATOR X Program! Together, we’re blending storm drain education with hands-on learning to inspire students and create meaningful impact.
💡 Customization goes a long way—and at Walnut Grove, the Gator mascot makes it extra special. The famous Yellow Fish by the drain now has new company: GATORS guarding the drains! With Moses Filters installed, these Gator Drains help stop debris before it reaches our rivers and seas.
The GATOR X Program is all about inclusion, growth, and opportunity, guided by five key pillars:
📘 Academic • 🤝 Social Community Skills • 🚀 Transition • 💪 Healthy Living • 🌍 Inclusion
We’re proud to support Walnut Grove Secondary’s commitment to empowering students while protecting our environment. Together, we can make change—one drain at a time. 💛🐊💧

🌊✨ From Our City Drains to the Colorful Ocean ✨🌊
Urban runoff doesn’t just disappear—it travels from our streets and storm drains directly into the rivers and oceans we all share. In British Columbia 🇨🇦 that means the Fraser River and the Pacific Ocean, flowing through Indigenous Nations Land and ecosystems that have sustained life for generations.
At Moses Filter, we’re bringing innovation to storm drain awareness through art, interactivity, and education. Our newest project, inspired by the Yellow Fish symbol, transforms storm drain learning into a hands-on, customizable, and fun experience for schools, organizations, and communities.
Through the C.O.U.L.D. Program (Communities/Classrooms • Overseeing • Unintentional • Littering • Debris), we are expanding environmental etiquette, weaving creativity and culture into how we engage youth and communities.
This interactive tool has already sparked tremendous interest and success—and we’re only getting started.
🗓Stay tuned for more unique collaborations that blend art, education, and innovation to protect our waters and honor the lands they flow through.
💧 Because every storm drain leads somewhere.
💛 Because awareness leads to action.
🌍 Because the water we share connects us all. 📢 2024 & 2025 Designer Of The Year: 💐🏆🥇
