“POPPI” SUPERBOWL LX
for this shoot we were seeing 360° with 2 cameras so not only did we need to light every corner of the location, but we also had to maintain the smallest footprint possible. due to the limitations of the building we had to provide a freestanding structure which introduced a few different factors to workaround: a tiered floor with curved steps, pillars on the wall on only one side, and doors that only a specific scissor could fit through by completely dismantling the basket. additionally, we really needed to max out the height and length of the room in order to save space for techno & dolly, extras and SPFX gags not to mention a horse. this meant building (2) 19’ legs for the low side and (2) 16’6” legs for the high side which put us 3” below the ceiling overall. for this dimensional flexibility and necessary load capacity at the 51’6” length we needed, @modtruss was the obvious answer. @stage13riggingrentals hooked us up with the 12” aluminum. from there we mounted (3) auroris units across the width of the spans and installed a 30x40 pipe grid to give CLT @isaacmarz the lighting versatility he needed. thanks again to DP @bennncareyyy for the awesome project as always!

“CATERPILLAR”
probably the grippiest job ever. our first time working with DP @mikedaltondp was this awesome Caterpillar commercial using Misfit1. the shots were probably 90% camera rigs and virtually no lights which we love to see 😉 gaffer @ethanspencer still managed to have fun sitting in for us at times and working CRLS boards while we leapfrogged builds and machines.

“LATINA FOREVA” Music Video
our second time on the Mammoth Mountain was all golden. can’t thank the crew enough for this one but of course also DP @russfraser for trusting us and CLT @mathiasperalta for the collaboration. we hammered rig after rig out for one day both for shots and also as prep for the next day. then we played with light and snow across all sides of the mountain. an absolute blast using all of our wits and, indeed, everything we brought along on Misfit1 to get it done.

It all started at the movies. Growing up I watched at least a movie everyday and at the theater at least every week, often by myself. That’s not meant to be a bummer, I was just obsessed, most people didn’t have that kinda time. I was a nerd after all. Not quite an outcast…just didn’t always fit in. Today marks 5 years in business for Misfit Grip. But the identity started long before then. We are the island of misfit toys: custom and specialty within the already niche of gripping. Passion for the celluloid medium is what drives us, hearts first. We want to collaborate with you. We want to work. We’ve enjoyed these jobs you’ve brought us over and over again throughout the years. We love seeing our projects on TV or social media. We want you to watch movies. But most of all we want to watch movies with you. Here’s to another 5, then 10 and all the rest until there’s nothing left. “SACRAMENTO” Feature Film
the work works, and we have the tools. eternally grateful to have been apart of this project in such an intimate capacity with DP @benmullen and @michaelangarano directing. a lot of the filming was run n gun style as far as lighting; big bounce washes hoping to capture the magic when the cast falls into it. but luckily the camera needs were grip heavy. process trailer on the freeway, quickly adjustable rigs in the backseat for free driving, car to car support and every once in awhile, a nice big dolly move from @calemaaan on either the @jlfisher_inc 10 or 11 depending how crowded we were. I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed creating.

“NIKE: SABRINA 2”
working creatively alongside CLT @mathiasperalta to execute this vision for DP @packdrawn was an absolute pleasure. one of our favorite stages to shoot at has what’s called a batten system, which, can be limiting, but on our no-time turnaround to put this rig in to then install the basketball court, it was essential. a batten system allows us to bring the ceiling to working height. however, only 4 battens at a time with 250lbs capacities and we needed a 20x60 softbox which was way too much weight to only span across 4. we had to divide the box into (3) 20x20x6 boxes with 6’ teasers so that we could evenly distribute the weight across the battens and then operated each section independently. we lined the inner walls between the sections with matching diffusion so that, when at the same height, the 3 sections would “seam” together. from there, we also needed individual units that were height adjustable independently from the heights of the battens peppered throughout the length of the softboxes. we brought MISFIT2 out to service the needs of this job along with @elitecamerasupport on the techno.

commercial with DP @jeremysnell who’s always challenging us with creative camera support but on this one, with some super fun light control as well. the boys treated about 300’ of windows with either ND, color, or frost and on some, all 3 flavors. we had a huge Modtruss free-standing build with some fabrication from @blakemfarmer as an on camera rig for a nightclub scene, we did a crazy, spinning, descender rig off the roof to emulate a bucket being lowered down, and lastly but certainly not least…rigged a camera to a basketball that Jeremy literally threw around on the court 😂

back to back spots that recently dropped with DPs @russfraser and @robwittdidit . super fun visual rigs on the stage and only big stuff for the exterior portion. @sweatergrips lugged 20x’s all over the steep location while @calemaaan built a huge circle run on soggy, bumpy grass. at the stage we got to hang with @elitecamerasupport after slinging some motors and building a backdrop with the LNX system for CLT @mathiasperalta who is always a blast

3 years in business! It’s not many, but considering we started the process at the beginning of 2020, it feels like a feat. The lockdown happened right in the middle of incorporating so the paperwork wasn’t finalized until that May. Signing that was the scariest moment, no one knew what the future looked like. I know a lot of people are scared now too, but we’re a resilient bunch; find a group and stick with them. Work at the relationships, don’t chase the money. It’s an island of misfit toys and we’re your people.
