New Releases—May/15
Misha Panfilov has a blink-and-you-missed-it lathe cut release from a few years back reissued via Ultraääni. Not your typical Panfilov, Repetitive Music Vol. 1 delves into minimalism, looping synths and piano coated in tape decay make for a unique entry in his catalog.
Meitei returns to his “lost Japanese sound” with Agate, which actually looks back on his Kofu series, reinterpreting the originals after spending years performing them live.
Black Editions move back into contemporary Japanese psychedelia, offering up the newest from Go Hirano, a quiet but notable part of the PSF imprint.
Neurosis returns after a decade-long hiatus, doing what they do best.
Got a pair of Jon Collin reissues, both culled from his early-ish years.
We’ve got two Oren Ambarchi releases on our highlights list this week, including his new collab alongside his longtime partner and former Vancouverite crys cole, and Hubris celebrates 10 years with a new pressing on his own Black Truffle.
Jeff Parker and his ETA IVtet returns with another satisfying improv sesh, an ever-shifting mode that moves through rhythmic fusion, cosmic blues, and hypnotic minimalism.
Swiss producer Lb Honne follows up last year’s EP on Smallville with Guardwatcher (pt. I), a 2xLP set on his fledgling St. Odes imprint, co-run with Ben Kaczor. His newest is a submerged bit of beauty, tinkering at the edges of house, ambient and minimalist techno, really not too far removed from the Giegling sound.
Incredible 2xLP set of recordings culled from the vast archives of experimental guitarist Hans Reichel, Oren Ambarchi’s Black Truffle piecing together works from his early days in the late 70s and up through the 80s.
We’ve got four new releases from the always dependable Mule Musiq.
Kölsch’s 1977 is back in print, the 2013 album is certainly one of the better releases on the Kompakt label.
Loads more in this week, Minimum Table Stacks reissue a rare collection from post-punk outfit Scissor Fits.

FFFoxy Podcast #276 is now available. It’s been over a month since the last episode. Let’s just say that life has been rather hectic on a variety of fronts in that time, making it difficult to get a new show produced, but I’m hoping to get back into a more consistent schedule in the summer months ahead. I’ve got a fairly packed new music-heavy show for you this time, which sort of mirrors the all-over-the-place headspace I’ve been in and the different listening trails I’ve been heading down. I hope you come across at least a few new discoveries throughout this show. Link to listening options in bio.
A few things that you’ll hear on this Thursday’s Free Form Freakout show at 2:00 p.m. on KMSU. Got a busy couple weeks ahead, so the next podcast episode will likely take a bit longer than usual. More soon.
Bonjour mes amis! It’s me, Zinedine Zidane, how’s it going? Me, I’ve been hanging out @popcultureshop75 on Rue Keller in the fashionable city of Paris. There you can pick up excellent disques by the likes of Paris 1942, Alan Vega, Polygon Window, R.N.A. Organism, The Clean, and, as of today, the brand new long player by England’s newest hitmakers, THE MIDNIGHT MINES. I predict big things for these guys, probably gonna be headlining the Zenith soon.
Fred also has loads of comics and tapes and Street Fighter II figurines. What a great place. Tell all your Parisien punk mates or people passing through. Apparently bloghouse is back though and the weather is a bit shit, so I got to get out of this country for a while, see you round the way.
Slide 1 - Midnight Mines ‘Feel I’m Slipping Away Now’ LP is in stock now via Don’t Buy Records mail order in the Netherlands. Lammie is not on social media but if you search Don’t Buy Records blogspot you’ll find him. This is probably the cheapest way to get the record in mainland Europe because you can avoid paying a crazy amount of postage and post-Brexit customs punishment etc. I’ve got more copies in now as well so if you’re a UK record shop that wants to stock it get in touch, or you can get it from the MM bandcamp.
Slide 2 - A million years ago I played drums in a duo called Sexaphone, with one of my best friends. We didn’t play many shows except one really fucking weird evening when we had to play for 3 hours at a beach bar in Cagliari so performed every song we knew multiple times each. We put out two 7”s in the early 2000s, recorded a third single in 2009 which never came out, and a fourth in 2024 when Lisa was back in London for a week on holiday. This is all compiled on ‘Lost Connectons’ which is out today via Girlsville Records. Lisa was the queen of writing trashy two chord hits for Sexaphone, and continues to write stellar songs for her current project Worst Worry.
Slide 3 - I have lost my tiny mind and putting on the next Mystery Planes a week after the last one. Number 13 features Christopher Alan Durham all the way from Michigan USA, Vaia & Tam from Portugal / UK and Baron Saturday (with me smashing myself in the head with a tea tray in the background like that old Pogues video) from Italy / UK so it’s international baby and it’s all taking place upstairs at Walthamstow Trades Hall this Sunday. Also if you’re a fan of planning ahead, Mystery Planes 14 is on Saturday 18 April so make a note in your noise diary now.
Midnight Mines “Slug Train” from the album ‘Feel I’m Slipping Away Now’ on Minimum Table Stacks.
A cat shit on my blue suede shoes. A cat shit on my blue suede shoes.
No illness.
Ray! Turn these monitors up! I can’t hear a fucking thing! Take the middle off, Ray! No middle! Come on Ray, get it together! Come on, move it!
At parties, is the fine civilian policeman.
Midnight Mines play Mystery Planes Number Twelve, next Saturday 31 January in the upstairs room at Walthamstow Trades Hall, with Rubber and < 3.
MYSTERY PLANES NUMBER THIRTEEN

An evening of primitive performance and found sounds by the Midnight Mines and friends.

VAIA & TAM
Songwriter Ro from Setúbal, Portugal, in intimate duo mode, backed up by Tam (Es), something slightly different than the more post-punk influenced sounds they make as part of Vaiapraia.
BARON SATURDAY
One half of Midnight Mines in his guitar soli persona, with back-up from bandmate PRVATE SORROW.
+ winter folk sounds from the Major Trauma Sound System in between acts
