Sorry it’s taken me two months to post a summary of Mystery Planes Number Thirteen. I cope with life via aggressive compartmentalisation, and unfortunately don’t have much time for this particular compartment. This happened on 8th February and was a very different evening than we’ve put on before, a hastily assembled Sunday night acoustic evening, to host Christopher Alan Durham, who was over in London all the way from Detroit, busting out a set of Michigan fried cosmic strum and occult folk moves, kicking things off with a Nikki Sudden cover. Vaia & Tam also slayed with set of stripped back bass and harmony chillers, with that all important saudade flavouring. I don’t have any photos or footage of Baron Saturday’s opening set because I was smashing myself in the head with a tin tray, but the boy did good. Mystery Planes Number Fourteen is going to be very different again, a Saturday nite rager with Skintern, Vanity Crystal and D.S.T. Probably some kind of stupid tape edit DJ set between acts by the Major Trauma Sound System again. 70s disco going on downstairs if you want to escape from the noise. Saturday 30 May in the upstairs room at Walthamstow Trades Hall. No advance tickets because fuck all ticketing apps.

Midnight Mines shredding the speakers at Mystery Planes Number Twelve, upstairs at Walthamstow Trades Hall, January 2026. As featured in the latest issue of Another Subculture. Photograph by Ben Perkins. Risograph printing by Pagemasters in South London. Branches by Harry Bix and Less Than Three. When I said that the next Mystery Planes would be on Saturday 18 April, what I ACTUALLY meant is that everyone is going to New River Studios to see Kaleidoscope that night, so Mystery Planes Number Fourteen takes place on SATURDAY 30 MAY, please amend your noise diary accordingly. Line-up reveal very soon, once I get a spare evening to letraset together a poster. Keep it locked, and when I say “locked” I mean feverishly scrolling through loads of ads and ‘suggested content’ and for some reason endless Moby. So. Much. Moby.

Very very belated post because I am SHIT AT SOCIAL MEDIA but here are some videos/pics of MYSTERY PLANES NUMBER TWELVE which happened on Saturday 31 January, and was truly magickal. I was quite stressed in the run up to this about how we were going to fit everything in at the tiny upstairs room at the Trades Hall, but in the end it was fine and no-one got decapitated by a swinging branch. Having TWO of the best groups in current existence on the same bill was maybe a bit overloaded as well, and even though they’re completely different from each other, I felt it hung together on its own illogical rhythm. Footage of the otherworldly/noisy band is RUBBER, footage of the otherworldly/quiet band is LESS THAN THREE. Both punch holes in the walls of reality with sound itself, do not miss any opportunity to see them do their thing. Will dig up some documentation of MYSTERY PLANES NUMBER THIRTEEN soon. Also! Line-up for MYSTERY PLANES NUMBER FOURTEEN hopefully getting nailed down this week, but all you need to know for now is that it will take place on Saturday 18 April so mark it on your raving calendar now.

In 2004 we were suffering under the bombardment of the 125th Britpop revival, for was it not Tony Blair himself, upon ascending to the lead singer role in Blur, who promised his followers a one thousand year reich??? And then sprang forth the Pigeon Detectives, and Miquita Oliver, and Wife Swap, and the Sex Pistols swore on TV in TV documentary no. 3017*. Ok, I might be getting some of the chronology and specifics mixed up, and it’s all really different now**, but the point is - somewhere between Los Angeles and London, static crackles as the phone line transmitted first world problem to first world problem, plans hatched across a transatlantic feed, a seed first planted in Colorado to Tottenham letters - “even if we are not on the same continent then we can at least form one branch of a mutual international fan club, et tu Brutus?”, illustrated here via scans from the inner sleeve of the second Sexaphone 45 ‘Fuck Your Space’ (yes the irony that I’m writing this as a post on one of the dominant 2026 iterations of social media has not actually escaped me but THANK YOU FOR POINTING IT OUT). We adopted PERSONAS because real life in this society, is at best, a total bore etc etc. My particular persona has mashed up Leicester slang (getting a cob on means you are not happy in the East Midlands) with some dialogue swiped from a Minder outtake, doesn’t make any sense at all***. Anyway, now it is a million years later and most culture is just as dreary and awful as it ever was, but Girlsville Records have just released an anthology of all four Sexaphone 7”s (yes the last two were so exclusive they didn’t actually exist except in the minds of the Voxaphone/Drummerphone fan club, like a lathe cut but without corporeal form), and both these CHARACTERS are still the fan club for the other, and if this is what FRIEND ROCK is, then count me in. Just count me out of everything else etc. Voxaphone put this better than me in a blog post which I’ll attempt to put a link to IN THE BIO. Because Because: all these forms of communications are vile, but Sexaphone wasn’t.

Bonjour mes amis! It’s me, Zinedine Zidane, how’s it going? Me, I’ve been hanging out @popcultureshop75 on Rue Keller in the fashionable city of Paris. There you can pick up excellent disques by the likes of Paris 1942, Alan Vega, Polygon Window, R.N.A. Organism, The Clean, and, as of today, the brand new long player by England’s newest hitmakers, THE MIDNIGHT MINES. I predict big things for these guys, probably gonna be headlining the Zenith soon. Fred also has loads of comics and tapes and Street Fighter II figurines. What a great place. Tell all your Parisien punk mates or people passing through. Apparently bloghouse is back though and the weather is a bit shit, so I got to get out of this country for a while, see you round the way.
