The festive season is all about traditions, whether honouring those you’ve inherited or creating new ones of your own. In our brand new issue, food writer Mimi Thorisson (@mimithor ) shows us how she celebrates Christmas at home in Italy with her multi-cultural family. 'I grew up in Hong Kong in the 1970s, and I’ve held on to many of the British Christmas traditions that are popular there. My husband is Icelandic and we live in Turin with our eight children and two dogs,’ she says. ‘We’re a large family, which makes the season very special. We spend time doing arts and crafts to a soundtrack of Nat King Cole and watching old Agatha Christie films. It’s all about sharing and blending the traditions we come from.’ Step inside Mimi's charming apartment, set in a 19th-century palazzo, where the old, the new and the unexpected come together at Christmas. And be sure to turn on your post notifications for more inspiration from our new issue, on newsstands from December 4. Words by @marco_mansi_ Photography by @mark_anthony_fox

Oh la la! Thank you @nlvogue fo this fabulous cover!! This is the sweetest photo of Lucian and I, I'll cherish it forever. It was taken late summer @ghtlakecomo , I was breastfeeding Lucian just minutes before a wonderful dinner, and Oddur snapped this shot. I can't wait to see the 24 page feature, out in newsstand today. #VogueLiving #covergirl #pinchmeplease Photo:@oddthor

Still here in Hong Kong, stretching out the days a little longer. Shooting the new cookbook, fine tuning recipes, eating extremely well and crossing paths with the most inspiring people. This city never leaves me untouched. The energy, the obsession with food (mine are egg sandwiches, fishball noodles, wonton soup, almond and sesame soup and lately very good pandan cakes). One of the greatest joys has simply been speaking Cantonese. I went to Chinese school as a child and the language has been embedded in my memory. I’ve been so touched by the kindness of strangers when they hear me speak, and I find myself telling my story over and over again. Growing up here, being half Chinese, how deeply Hong Kong shaped me. Hong Konger at heart, always. And what a joy it has been sharing this city through our workshops. After hosting three groups here, I can honestly say Hong Kong leaves a mark on people in ways they never expect. Our next Hong Kong workshop will take place November 2–5, 2027. Back in Hong Kong, just after a beautiful workshop and now taking photos for my new cookbook with @oddthor . There is something so special about being surrounded by passionate people who share the same love for food, the same curiosity, the same appetite for flavour. Cooking, tasting, talking, these moments together always leave me inspired in the most gentle way. Hong Kong never fails to ignite that spark. I’ve shared a little more on my Substack on Hong Kong, and of course a recipe to take a piece of it home. Link in my bio or stories. And for those who are interested our next workshop in Hong Kong is November 2-5th, 2027 and will coincide with the publication of my new Chinese cookbook (we’re shooting it now) - we announced the dates earlier this month and we’re already more than half booked 🤗 If you want more information please write to us [email protected] For all our upcoming workshop dates

Cooking is my way of sharing where I come from with my children. Each recipe carries a memory, a place, a moment in time. Through these dishes, those stories become part of their everyday life, and slowly, part of their own roots. With Culinary Bonds, @create_int and @create_spain celebrate this simple yet meaningful connection. The way cooking brings together generations, and lets traditions travel quietly from one table to the next. Thank you for inviting me to be part of this story.

People always ask how I manage it all. I never really have a perfect answer. On substack, I wrote an essay about life, food, family & the in-between moments that somehow hold everything together. And shared my childhood tuna salad I can’t stop making. (Link in bio or stories).

Last year we hosted a small, intimate gathering in my home here in Turin. A little pre-Christmas extravaganza with the loveliest guests. It was such a joy. Cosy, relaxed, and the perfect way to get into the festive spirit. A moment to indulge together before the full rush of Christmas preparations begins. So we’re doing it again this year , I just announced the dates last week. December 3rd and 4th, 2026. Two days together from morning to night. Markets, cooking, long lunches, wandering through Turin, and beautiful dinners in the evening. A few spots are still available. If you’d like more info, email
[email protected] PS: it’s manger, as in “to eat” in French, not manager, which is a very common mix up

What are you cooking this weekend? A few of my favourite recipes, some from my new book and others gathered over the years. The angel hair savoury pasta cake from ‘A Kitchen in Italy’ is at the top of my list, and very close to my heart. Imagine a pasta cake filled with bechamel, parmesan, mozzarella, mortadella, zucchini, peas… for me this is Easter! I have also shared a small archive moment from my old cooking show ‘La Table de Mimi’ when I cooked an Easter feast, eggs à la Bordelaise, Garlic crusted lamb with potatoes and my chocolate tart. Can’t believe that was 12 years ago! Happy cooking and happy Easter! Xx

We are delighted to add our workshop dates for 2027 (and one special one this year!): Turin Christmas Workshop, December 3–4, 2026 Last December, I welcomed a small group of wonderful guests in my kitchen in Turin to celebrate the publication of my new cookbook. We visited markets, cooked together, and I shared some of the quieter secrets of my adopted city. It was two days filled with laughter, delicious food, and a gentle Christmas spirit. At the end, someone said, “You should do this every year.” So this year, we will. Venice, March 23–25, 2027 Venice in Early Spring We have been hosting workshops in Venice since 2019, and it has become our most beloved destination. Over the years, there have been so many memorable moments, wonderful people, and cooking unforgettable meals. Venice in March has its own quiet charm. The days begin to stretch longer, the air softens, the promise of spring. We announced this workshop a few months ago and we have 3 spots left. Autumn Feast in Turin & Piemonte, October 6–8, 2027 We have called Turin home since 2018, and it is always a joy to share this city and its surrounding region. Turin remains one of Italy’s most authentic and elegant cities. Its streets belong to locals, its history runs deep, and its culinary heritage is generous. During these days together, we will explore both the city and the countryside. Expect long tables, cooking and the quiet pleasure of eating well. Hong Kong, November 2–5, 2027 The most vibrant city in Asia Hong Kong is the city where I grew up, and it continues to shape the way I cook and think about food. It is a place defined by its energy, its generosity, and its extraordinary food culture. There is nowhere quite like it. My next cookbook, to be published late 2027, is dedicated to Chinese cooking, and this workshop will be a very special opportunity to share that journey with you, through markets, meals, cooking and the flavours of my childhood.
