Checking out the great @stevewilsonsax on the title track of @billychildspiano album “Rebirth”. Totally stunning record, and Steve is killing from start to finish. Check it out if you don’t know it already! I got to see this band at the Jazz Standard right before they recorded this one, and that’s still one of the best shows I’ve seen since living here. And for all the saxophone nerds out there, Steve was the reason I HAD to have a 62R soprano 😂😂😂. Now that I’ve got one I just have to learn to play it the way he does…

The wonderful people at @ishimoriwinds just sent me one of their “classic” ligatures for soprano and it is FANTASTIC!! It’s a perfect fit on my slant signature Otto Link, and super reed-friendly and free-blowing. It’s really helping me dial things in on this horn, and for once I’m actually enjoying playing soprano 😂😂😂
The mouthpiece is a FL “no USA” slant signature Otto Link, originally a 7 and opened up to a 7* by John at @thomaswoodwinds and as always I’m using a @bostonsax reed - this one is a black label 3.5. This ligature keeps the harder reeds from getting stuffy on a more open mouthpiece like this, and I’m loving the combination. Horn is a YSS-62R from the late 1980s. Enjoy!

Somehow I’ve never learned any Joe Henderson solos (until now) even though I love his albums and have studied tons of his compositions. Love his feel (especially the double time phrases), and how he makes it all sound so easy.
