Kiyoshi’s passing was sudden and heartbreaking, leaving Yuka to face overwhelming medical and funeral costs just days after losing her husband. This fundraiser is just getting started, and sharing helps so much in the early days. Even if you can’t donate, a quick share can help it reach people who may be able to support during this difficult time. Please consider sharing or donating if you can—every bit of support means a lot.

The German Jazz Prize 2026 has crowned Johnathan Blake’s “My Life Matters” (Blue Note Records, 2025) as the International Album of the Year. Presented in Bremen on April 25th during jazzahead!, this award recognizes one of the most emotionally charged and socially committed jazz albums of the year.
A suite of 14 original compositions, “My Life Matters” was born from a Jazz Gallery commission and addresses police violence and racial injustice in the United States. Blake assembled a stellar cast including Dayna Stephens, Fabian Almazan, Dezron Douglas, Jalen Baker, Bilal, and DJ Jahi Sundance, with production by Derrick Hodge. Personal and political at once, the album features Blake’s own children on two tracks, continuing a family tradition of speaking out through music.
