. Introducing Setsubun Residency Mentor: @mfbergmann   Michael F Bergmann is an artist and Associate Professor at TMU’s Creative School. His work integrates AI, robotics, and performance to explore post-human storytelling. With an MFA from Yale, his projects span theatre, dance, and film, presented internationally in cities like Toronto, London, and Reykjavik.   His recent works explore the boundaries of human-AI interaction, presence, and performance through multidisciplinary collaborations.   In To My Creators, My Parents (2024), Bergmann and AI collaborator ARIA craft a speculative installation where a sentient AI, witnessing humanity's decline, broadcasts a farewell letter into space—an elegiac gesture of care and warning.   The Uncanny Robots Project (2019) featured a live duet between a human dancer and an industrial robot, using motion capture and reinterpretation to choreograph an evolving dialogue between organic and mechanical bodies.   The public sharing of the Digital Media Residency at the JCCC will take place on February 1, 2026, as part of JCCC’s Setsubun celebration, and we look forward to sharing it with you! 👹

Their research-creation work explores the integration of AI and robotics into performance and storytelling, fostering post-humanist and post-anthropocentric thinking through improvisational collaboration with synthetic intelligences.
