My name is Aldo Giovanni De La Cruz. My close friends and family call me Gio and I make music, DJ, & sometimes play live under the moniker of Memory Clap Acid. The mix I’ve done for @runner.magazine.detroit is a 111 minutes of funky mutant techno, Detroit sludge, Drexciyan electro, & tripped out break infused club edits all tied together by a common thread. Acid!!! A big portion of the mix is full of fellow artist who release music on labels that I also work with such as @theblacklodgela , @clandestinerecords23 , @dead__channel , @upnorthrec , @metamotometamoto , @absu.c , @phagetapes , @sons_of_traders , and last but not least Junted who this artist dj mix series is for. I’ve been releasing music with Junted since the beginning of the label. In 2016 Marshall Applewhite & The Friend found the tracks I had been making for fun on SoundCloud. They were really excited about finding someone else that was making “Sludge” I had no idea what Sludge was in an Electronic Music sense but apparently I was making it?!? Their excitement about my tunes was the first push I needed to get back into making music again. Previous to this I had taken a break from playing in bands (mostly in Oakland & San Francisco) and just music all together. I had become a Heroin addict and needed to focus on getting clean and sober. After getting sober and picking up life’s pieces I started making music again but it wasn’t anything serious. It was just for fun and I didn’t think anyone would actually listen to it let alone like it. So when these 2 dudes from Detroit were hitting me up about the stuff I was making I was definitely taken a back & just plain stoked that they actually dug it. When Joel (aka @marshall.applewhite ) invited me to be on his new label’s first release in 2017 I was more than floored. That was the big push that got my music making and djing going full force. The Junted fam of weirdos, outsiders, misfits, sound terrorist, and just all around good peeps embraced me into their Detroit world and I am more than happy that my form of non genre fucked up “club” music has a homebase. Went to Santa Cruz to see @b.c.___ & @cchelseawwolfe play. It was amazing. Hair raising on body performance. Very magical! Then we did the mandatory SC thing & visited out fave diner. Thanks to @fefelores for going on the scary drive with me & putting up with my even scarier driving. You are the most beautiful bestest!!! Also thanks to @caseychisholm & fam for hanging out with us & “partying” hard at the hotel & diner.

REST IN POWER KITTI VON PAIGE @kittivonpaige you were one of the most supportive & full of positive energy forces in our music family circles. As a DJ you brought it harder & more tasteful than most. You were a champion of Hispanic & Latino people making & DJing the more dark & macabre sound. You valued the freaks, weirdos, & other and gave them a safe space with your La Puteria events and gave them a voice with your @laputeriaradio show. You made me feel very proud to be Mexican-American & a weirdo sonically & literally and pushed me to perform my loud & noisey music live when I didn’t think anyone was even interested in seeing or hearing that side of what I do. You always asked what I was up to music wise and when I would share new stuff with you you’d always be so encouraging & gas me up. You’d always reply with “¡Primo! Yasss!! When I started my new @xwoundcarex project with @fefelores you were so excited for us. You would message me “¡Primo! We need to get you on a bill! I wanna be the one who books your guys 1st show!” That was some of our last exchanges. Even till the end. You were all about supporting others & helping others where you could. I will never forget all your acts of kindness & everything you did for me & everyone else in our music community. You very much did lift people up. I am forever grateful that our paths crossed.
