The Music Is Black - A British Story (Trailer Directed by Meeks + Frost) We had the pleasure of directing this trailer for ‘The Music Is Black’ exhibition for the newly opened V&A East ( @vam_east ) in Stratford. It was a long-awaited opening and great to see people from all walks of life come together to celebrate a new cultural space in the heart of east London. Us having access to such vast and amazing archive footage really gave us a vivid depiction of our journey to this point as a race and culture, and being given the opportunity to construct this piece to support such a groundbreaking moment in Black British history feels really special. Big love to our amazing editor Kaz Ove, a genius. To Robyn Kasozi for putting us forward and her never ending support. When we first met Meeks & Frost, it was immediately clear, these two don’t just collaborate, they move as one. Directors born and raised in London with Jamaican roots, their connection runs far deeper than the projects they create. Having known each other literally since day one, their brotherhood is the heartbeat behind every story they bring to life. Their breakout moment arrived in January 2020, but that was only the beginning. Since then, they’ve carved their own lane with filmmaking that feels lived-in and real, rich in texture, rhythm, emotion, and an unmistakable point of view. Born in Britain, shaped by Jamaica, and growing up between London, Nigeria, and Poland, their identity is global, grounded, and a reflection of modern life.
