Michel was far more than a master of his craft—he was a true embodiment of the passion, joy, and generosity that define great winemaking. He approached every blend with an intuitive brilliance, always accompanied by his signature smile and a disarming sense of humor that made every moment feel lighter.
I will always be deeply grateful for the years we shared—for his guidance, his wisdom, and the many unforgettable moments that extended well beyond the blending table. To have learned from him was a privilege; to have called him a friend was an even greater one.
Sending my deepest love and heartfelt condolences to the Rolland family during this difficult time, and holding you all in my thoughts.
There’s really not enough space on social media for encapsulate how special Gnocchi was to us. He was my little sour patch kid, so brave and ornery on the outside but with the deepest sweetest soul on the inside. He came to me on my 30th birthday as a tiny ball of fluff, and brought so much joy and richness to my life. Always by my side, loyal until his last breath in my arms. He bravely fought and defeated lymphoma three times, in the end it was his heart that failed him. Only in physicality because in reality and spirit his heart was 10x bigger than his body.
There’s so much more I could write but it is still so hard. So instead I share this poem instead that I believe all owners and lovers of pets believe to be true, about the rainbow bridge and meeting our loved ones on the other side.
As I lead you to the Rainbow Bridge, my heart is full.
Though we didn’t have enough time together,
I will forever cherish the time we shared.
“You could stay a little longer, if you like,” I whisper.
“I would love to, but I can’t,” you respond.
“It is my time to go.” We both know it to be true.
Your furry paws step onto the Rainbow Bridge and I see you illuminate.
You’re free of fatigue. Free of discomfort. Free of pain.
This is the way I will remember you,
In your strongest and most vibrant form.
As you reach the meadow at the end of the bridge,
You turn to face me one last time.
“Until we meet again,” you smile, “I’ll be here,
Waiting for you on the other side.”
To celebrate Women’s Month, we’re releasing special conversations from an upcoming episode of Her Way in Napa Valley. Host @kelseyglasser sat down with @mayadv of @dallavallevineyards to talk about legacy, land stewardship, and what it means to step into one of Napa Valley’s most iconic estates.
Dalla Valle became one of Napa’s earliest “cult” wineries in the 1990s, known for producing powerful, collectible Cabernet Sauvignon from a steep hillside vineyard above Oakville. Today, Maya Dalla Valle is guiding the estate into its next chapter alongside her mother, Naoko.
The conversation explores Napa’s evolution, the responsibility of carrying forward a family legacy, and how the next generation is shaping the future of the valley.

December 14, 1995 was the day I lost my father to cancer. A loss so profound is something you carry with you throughout your life. Time tries to erase the memories and ease the pain but you fight to stay connected to the loved one you lost.
Watching my Mom carry this pain and fight to preserve the memories through perserverence and passion of the vineyard and winery they created together has always been one of the biggest influences in my life. It’s what drove me to set the course to return one day to help keep the spirit and love of my father alive.
After a year of setbacks and immense challenges we faced as a winery, learning I was named winemaker of the year by Antonio Galloni I was both stunned and emotional. It’s an incredible recognition, and something I could have never earned without the support and guidance of those who wanted me to succeed in this business. I truly am grateful, and proud of what we have been able to accomplish as a small family winery. But the emotions came to the surface after celebrating the news with my Mom when I realized that I would never be able to share this milestone with my Father. The best I can do is honor his legacy by continuing to work hard and push forward to keep his memory alive.
Thank you to @antoniogalloni@vinous for this incredible recognition. Thank you to my team who helps me keep this dream alive and most of all thank you to my family who supports me in every way possible. I am blessed and in gratitude.

@makeitbonafide is a wizard magician photographer who can capture the joy, pain, creativity and gravitas of harvest in a seemingly effortless manner. I don’t like posting photos of myself but this one really captured all the feels of vintage 2025.
