❤️‍🩹 Hi everyone, I've been going through a difficult time with my health since June and I have come to a point where as much as I have tried to make it on my own, I need some help to get back on my feet and support to slow down in order to focus on healing. For the past few months I’ve been experiencing neurological symptoms that have made it really hard to work and keep up with daily life at the speed and intensity that I'm used to in order to survive. I’m still in the process of getting answers and hopefully treatment, but it’s been an overwhelming and uncertain journey with no clear path in sight. My dear friend @kiraburo has lovingly put together a fundraiser to help me cover rent, food, and ongoing medical expenses while I focus on recovery. I’m deeply grateful for their care, and for everyone who’s reached out with love and support during this time and for all the networks of support in my life 🤍 Any help is huge and forever appreciated (donations, shares, ideas and love). ☆ 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝔂𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓸𝓯 𝓶𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓸𝓻𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓹𝓼 ☆ I am incredibly grateful and excited to be part of 3 amazing mentorship programs this later half of the year that are built on networks of support, education and dismantling barriers to provide access to underrepresented groups. Not to mention all of them have been dreamt up and led by women & non-binary folk shaping the future. Despite some ongoing health issues that have been transforming my life and asking some hard questions on how I want to build forward - these programs are a light in my path towards where and how I can take my practice as a visual artist, a curator and music producer: ☆ @Mutekmontreal Incubator Program Description of the program on slide #3 Thanks to @simlayduran , Marie-Laure Saidani and the whole team making this program possible I will also be part of the BC Delegation at Mutek this year! Who's coming? --- ☆ Constellation Mentorship Program by @chapelsound Led by @whichnancy (interdisciplinary artist & mentor) - is a 10-month initiative that is set to reshape the future of arts leadership by supporting the next generation of QBPOC cultural producers in Vancouver. Thank you to Trang as well for all the work you do 🤍 ---- ☆ @pollinator_coop Program A virtual residency in mutual support and a peer program to help deepen one's practice. We hope you have been enjoying our latest project, “Violet Gave Willingly: Remix Vol. I,” a dynamic electronic soundscape remixed from Sophia Sanford’s ethereal vocal soundtrack accompaniment to her sister’s documentary about their mother. The project revolves around the experiences of women in creative and professional environments and strives to confront barriers that they face. Now that we have released the album, we would like to hightlight a few of the featured artists! Beyond a threatening aura and an often veiled presentation, El Ángel Exterminador honours the surreal vision of the film the project is titled after, following the fever dream approach to the transmutation of sociopolitical and inner tensions into audiovisual pieces. Blending their previous sonic explorations as “Goo” with analogue hardware and a new foray into digital DAWs, Ammo has developed a sound they dub “thriller-electronics,” re-mystifying electronic music by injecting it with magic, spirituality and chaos. Their hybrid performances deliver sharp edges, ethereal undertones, and spectral Latin American influences. “Sanford’s works weave together light and dark so beautifully, so for this remix I wanted to work with that darkness and sit with it and enshroud the listener in its mysteries before making the song flower as the layers of light come in with hope. It is our pleasure and dream to host @idkebra ‘s Vancouver debut for our second year co-curating the Pancouver Stage on Sunday evening at this year's @taiwanfest , in partnership with @chapelsound . This event is part of the TECTONIC series within the festival’s programming. This year’s festival theme is “Echoes of the Ocean” — a dialogue with Portugal and Brazil. Our approach for this year's curation is through a decolonial lens, honouring the footsteps, resilience, and sounds of our ancestors as they carry through to the present — channeled through electronic music. How do we move and behave in their steps and not on those that were forced on them? How do we honour them and keep them alive through sound & dance? What is it about the signature of a drum that takes us home wherever we are? That tells us where it comes from? 𝕷𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝖚𝖕: ☆ @idkebra Originally hailing from Brazil and now based in Mexico City, she's a driving force in the underground electronic music scene. As the founder and head of the @desculonizacion movement, she champions liberation through music ☆ Through her work, words, actions and selections she teaches us another world is possible - so there isn't anyone else we could think more fitting to headline this show. ☆ @brazuka.ca André is a multidisciplinary artist from Imperatriz, Brazil.
