Earlier in the year I completed the study to become a Living Future Accredited (LFA) professional. I loved it. It built upon the healthy, human-centric principles I’ve learnt from Parsons New School to become a 'Healthy Materials advocate' as well as studying the WELL Building Standard and Fitwel® It looks at buildings and the community they sit within, as well as improving the products used to demonstrate "what good looks like". The accreditation is the world’s most ambitious, advanced, and holistic regenerative design standard, with a wide span of tools to use to certify products, projects and communities provided by the International @living_future Institute. So I’m excited to work with virtual teams to deliver projects that go beyond interiors and regeneratively include the surrounding land and communities. I already work with fellow designers to help improve their projects to be more sustainable. I’m now also starting to work with manufacturers of products used by my industry to improve them too. Thanks to the Skills Bootcamp in Circular Economy pilot course, I've now become a CEI Trained Member of the @circular_economy_institute The pilot #SkillsBootcamp developed by @soenecs @brightonhovecc for the Department of Education. Our tutors are fantastic @drresources , Dr Ryan Woodard and Piers Morrill. It was been a combination of classroom: history, theory, case studies, group analysis. Lecture from @clairepotterdesign , @SussexUni , laptop disassembly with Emily Jones of @techtakebackfoundation , workshop tour at @plusxspace and visits from circular initiatives in our city and in London We had site visits to the @uniofbrighton Brighton Waste House/Wild House, Canary Wharf, Ford MERF (materials recovery facility) We've learnt about lifecycle assessments and we each produced and presented individual Circular Economy Opportunity Assessments (CEOs) and formulated a post study Action Plan The cohort were brilliant and inspiring. I've made friends too. It's been incredible and deeply engaging and educational. Looking forward to watching our groups next step. I love a field trip with built environment storyteller @nessnorwood Today's was to a charity I have admired for a long time, @makingitout_cio After seeing their beautiful work, I'd recommended them to others to use (especially @nostos__hove ) but hadn't visited. Well I got to visit both sites today! CEO Mark Whaley was so generous with his time and talked us through their work - locally famous due to the adorable #SoftMachines on Hove's promenade they collaborated with @morison_studio on for the @brightonfestival This Portslade and Buncton based charity supports people moving on from prison, homelessness and addiction by offering a community, support and skills. Their work is excellent - some of which we saw in the #WildHouse at @uniofbrighton - Sussex chairs and modulised planks in different species for social housing kitchens. Their art room is a lovely space where we met artist Ty who will be exhibiting at the forthcoming Artist Open House Thank you for your company Ness - and your informed + journalistic interviewing skills! 🌳🐏🐛💧🐄 ♻️🤝🐝🦆💚🌍 . . . It's the eve of Sir @davidattenborough 's 100th birthday. What a kind human - and advocate for all life on our beautiful home planet. Of course my mind goes to Dr Jane Goodall too. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the soon to be graduates of the @sussexproductdesign degree at @sussexuni yesterday. Thank you for the invite @clairepotterdesign As I understand it - it’s a bit of a dry run for the degree assessments and of course a preview for me of the course I love to visit at @newdesigners I’m sorry not to get to talk to all of you - but thank you for your time and brilliance to those that I did! ✨ Claire’s students always stand out. How lucky they are to benefit from her enthusiasm and energy. I wish she’d been a lecturer on my Furniture + Product Design course. Back to these inspiring students! Charlotte, Elfa, Milena, Henry, Zaki, Vernise, Leila, Joshua, Adam, Eli …. I loved your work…. Placing circularity rightly where it needs to be. Wonderful thoughts on gaps where products can enhance lives. (and not just fill with stuff) emotional durability, materiality, packaging, education, lifecycle.
