🌊 This is what I’m working on these days: CORAL SONIC RESILIENCE is a project that explores the healing power of sound to help restore damaged coral reefs. Based on a scientific discovery, it uses the sounds of healthy reefs played back to damaged ones to attract marine life. Currently in the prototyping phase, I’ve created underwater sound sculptures installed in a damaged reef and coral nursery of Ferdihoo Island in the Maldives. Later, this body of work will evolve into indoor exhibitions, merging art and science to emphasize the importance of reef conservation. #CoralSonicResilience #marineconservation #artandscience #reefrestoration #marcobarotti #acousticecology #sound #sculpture #soundart #art #design #maldives #exhibition project partners: @relaxound @coral_restoration_feridhoo @bca_campus_unipd @villarosamaldives @divingnoohiri Feridhoo Island Council. What if saving coral reefs was as simple as turning the sound back on? A team of divers and scientists, led by artist @marcobarotti , is working to restore damaged reefs in Jamaica using the soundscapes of healthy ecosystems. They record vibrant, living reefs and replay those sounds in damaged areas through reef-shaped speakers on the ocean floor, helping guide fish and marine life back home. 🪸In the same way a public square brings people together, a healthy reef does the same — just underwater.

Can underwater speakers save the world’s dying coral reefs?🪸 Climate change continues to intensify the crisis facing the world’s coral reefs — and researchers are experimenting with an unusual solution: sound. On assignment for #ClimateCentral, Senior Climate Correspondent @bentracysnaps travels to Jamaica and learns about a groundbreaking approach using underwater speakers to replay the sounds of healthy reefs — attracting marine life back to damaged ecosystems — alongside cutting-edge coral breeding efforts that could help restore these vital underwater habitats. 🌎This #EarthDay, celebrate our planet by reading more at the link in bio.

Sound meets science beneath the surface 🌊🔊 We’ve officially kicked off our Coral Sonic Resilience Project at Alligator Head Foundation led by @tba_21 artist @marcobarotti exploring how acoustic enrichment can help restore life to degraded reefs. By reintroducing the natural sounds of healthy coral ecosystems, we’re creating cues that attract fish, support recruitment, and help jumpstart reef recovery 🐠🪸 This is restoration with a twist — not just rebuilding structure, but reviving the soundscape of the sea. Stay tuned as we listen, learn, and bring reefs back to life 💙 #CoralRestoration #AcousticEnrichment #OceanInnovation

Lights, camera, coral action 🎥🌊 We were pleased to host Television Jamaica (TVJ) at the Alligator Head Foundation (AHF) for a feature on our novel Coral Sonic Resilience project — an innovative acoustic enrichment initiative designed to support reef recovery by restoring healthy reef soundscapes. Healthy coral reefs aren’t just vibrant — they’re noisy. By reintroducing natural reef sounds to degraded areas, we aim to attract fish and other marine life, accelerating ecosystem recovery and strengthening climate resilience. The story highlights visiting researcher Marco Barotti, whose pioneering work at the intersection of sound, art, and marine science informs this approach, alongside AHF Scientific Officer Bethany Dean, who is helping to lead implementation on the ground. We’re excited to see innovation, collaboration, and Caribbean science in the spotlight 💙🐠 Watch full video on our YouTube channel @ Alligator Head Foundation #CoralRestoration #AcousticEnrichment #ClimateResilience #MarineScience #AHF

🔊 Jamaica first in reef restoration innovation!🌊 The Alligator Head Foundation is leading Jamaica’s first-ever acoustic enrichment initiative for coral reef restoration, in collaboration with TBA Academy @tba_21 . This innovative research uses recordings from healthy reefs to attract fish and support coral recovery in degraded areas. 🪸🐟 By pioneering this approach in Jamaica, AHF is placing the country at the forefront of sound-based marine conservation in the Caribbean.🐠🪸 The research is led alongside marine scientist Marco Borgotti @marcobarotti of TBA Academy @tba21academy , bringing expert insight into the science behind acoustic enrichment.🔊 #ReefRestoration #alligatorheadfoundation #MarineInnovation #CaribbeanConservation

`Corals` This installation by @marcobarotti Just a few degrees warmer – and the colors disappear. The installation uses real-time data* on ocean conditions, fed into machine-learning models that modulate the sound, visuals, and movement of the work. These include sea surface temperatures, anomalies, waves, currents, and biological data. A coral reef location somewhere in the world is selected at random. The installation then shows its situation in real time. Installation by: @MarcoBarotti Clips: @frank_sauer The artworks were created for the @LostArtFestival - Vol. 3. #lostartfestival #lostartfestivalberlin #exhibitionberlin #museumberlin #lostplacesberlin lostplaces lightinstallation ———————————— The next exhibition will be in June 2026. Feel free to sign up for our list to be informed before the public announcement. You can find the link in the bio of @thedarkroomsexhibition
