Wrapped up the video editing for "What Broken Bones Will We Mend Together Now? ¿Qué huesos rotos vamos a reparar juntos ahora?, with my collaborator @miradavaga performed at @museodelchopo for @makelit . Special thanks to @jenbeaujean for her jazz improvisation, @aimeesuarezn for her video documentation, @truthanddocumentary for their video editing and lastly the @makelit team for inviting us to be part of their incredible festival that brings artists from both sides of the border to create something meaningful together. Last week, I presented the second iteration of a performance, "What broken bones will we mend together now?¿Qué huesos rotos vamos a reparar juntos ahora?," with my collaborator @miradavaga at @museodelchopo in Mexico City for @makelit . Our audience was enthusiastic and got straight to work producing collective verses for our collecting song. Thanks to all who participated! In "What broken bones will we mend together now?", we explored collective healing, rage, repair, and release. The performance reflects on what it means to be together in times of political crisis and how we can stay present for each other amidst the numbness produced by an overwhelming reality. Using selected text from freedom songs, protest music, and news headlines gathered by the artists across the border, audience members created a collective anthem of hope to reestablish the shattered connection to home that sustains us. @jenbeaujean was our invited vocalist who guided us in song using her experience as a jazz improviser. La artista mexicoamericana, participante del grupo de colaboración 2025-26 del festival Lit & Luz, impartirá una charla en la cual presentará su práctica y proyectos colaborativos, enfocados en crear esculturas sonoras y performances a partir de desechos recuperados del penal cercano a la casa donde vició en su infancia. Compartirá las estrategias estéticas que le ayudan a abordar la inquietante presencia del término “detención”, creando tensiones entre la persistencia de la arquitectura carcelaria y la posibilidad de resistir la lógica que sustenta ese concepto.

In a 2019 collaboration with @espejodetierra , author of Proceso De La Noché, and local organizers at Justicia en Ayotzinapa Comité Chicago, a crowd of residents gathered in Pilsen to remember the 43 Ayotzinapa Students who were kidnapped in Iguala, Guerrero. The art project used a 100-feet red tarp to draw attention to the involvement of local police, federal police, and the Mexican army for the students disappearance. The incident is known as one of Mexico’s most significant human rights cases. As of last year, only three people have been found. September, 2019. Photo by Pilseneros @makelit
