I donāt know that we as black women really understand how DEEPLY ENTRENCHED the trauma goes when it comes to our Afros.
Because I look at these photos with awe, at how beautiful my little cloud like Afro is and how perfectly it fits with this incredibly glamorous aesthetic and I know a JUST few years ago I would have thought this outfit was RUINED without something MORE.
Something longer, sleeker, more defined, brightly coloured.
ANYTHING MOREā¦than just my small, tightly coiled brown Afro.
How many of you guys would agree, honestly and truthfully, that for such a glamorous night of celebration as day, a launch party for your very first book, with celebrities, press and influencers, in MAYFAIR, your Afro, with no gel, or manipulation would be an option.
I get it COMPLETELY.
27 year old me would have a f***ing HEART ATTACK if she saw these photos š¤£š¤£š¤£
Itās a process.
But let these photos give you hope.
From the black woman who would not, and COULD NOT, leave her house without a wig, braids or a relaxer, to feel beautiful, sexy, glamorous, desirable and accepted..
The woman who suffered with severe traction Alopecia and colour damage
The woman who almost had a PANIC ATTACK going to her local Sainsburyās with this same teeny weeny Afro, picturing people were laughing at her, looking at her thinking she was ugly, not able to make eye contact with a SINGLE soul until she returned home
That would cuss and drag anyone who DARED ask her about wearing her natural hair
If I can do it.
You, can, and will do it.
In your own time.
Itās time to let those insecurities go and reclaim our beauty as black women, God does not make mistakes, he made us with Afro hair.
If you want to learn EVERYTHING I did to get to this stage, and are ready to begin the journey back to yourself, Iāve basically put my whole heart into a book, for you, because I love you so much, I understand, and donāt want you battling against your natural beauty anymore sis, letās work through this together.
