As The Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles continue to affect so many in our community, we want to invite you into a shared space of listening, care, and support.
On March 1 at 4:00 pm at the Wende Museum, four newly commissioned works will be presented by composers who lost their homes in the fires, offering their reflections on this experience and creating a space for others to mourn, gather, and contemplate. These composers are:
Jeffrey Bernstein
Joan Huang
Savannah Jo Lack
Bobak Lotfipour
The works will be performed by the Lyris Quartet, Aron Kallay, and Bobak Lotfipour.
This concert is for everyone carrying the weight of this moment, whether you were directly impacted or are holding others in your thoughts. It is an opportunity to gather, to bear witness, and to support artists whose lives and creative work have been profoundly disrupted.
Please save the date. We look forward to being together.
COORDINATES Musician Appreciation Post: The Strings
With the release of my new album COORDINATES coming up fast, I want to take some time to highlight the amazing musicians who made this project possible. I have always wanted to write for strings, and this album provided an opportunity to go all in! Across the record there were several spots to feature spellbinding solos by harpist JACQUELINE KERROD, violist LAUREN ELIZABETH BABA, and 5-string electric violinist MIGUEL ATWOOD-FERGUSON, as well as gorgeous ensemble contributions by bassist MICHAEL VALERIO, and the LYRIS QUARTET with violinists ALYSSA PARK and SHALINI VIJAYAN, violist LUKE MAURER and cellist TIMOTHY LOO.
On the track “Josephine’s Dream,” Jacqueline Kerrod’s improvised solo harp intro is nothing short of mesmerizing and her soloing over the form is transportive. Bassist Michael Valerio provides such an elegant foundation and feel, while the Lyris Quartet dances and soars through the texture. On “Coordinate 4: Nemesis,” Lauren Elizabeth Baba goes full-on metal with a blistering solo viola performance. On “Oracles,” Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s virtuosic electric violin solo sings with prog-rock ecstasy. And on “Coordinate 5: Hyperion,” the Lyris Quartet sounds like a full string orchestra with a dynamic performance for the ages!
Those last three tracks have yet to make their public debut, but you won’t have to wait long…COORDINATES is out everywhere this Friday, August 29th! You can pre-save now on your favorite platform.

Very proud and humbled to be a part of this magnificent project! My requiem, In the Arms of the Beloved, will be the featured piece on @anneakikomeyers upcoming release called Beloved. I set a Rumi poem, Gone to the Unseen - which was beautifully translated by Jonathan Star - to music orchestrated for: solo violin (Anne), the lamasterchorale, my jazz chamber ensemble, @lucianasouzamusic@lyrisquartet , and @the_gershmeister . It’s dedicated to my mother, Mable Childs, and will be released May 9th, two days before Mother’s Day. Please go to the link to see a video trailer.
