Brilliance Gala 2026 Auction Highlight: LYLE XOX "The Parnupple Siblings", 2021 Archival pigment print 29 x 21.5 in Edition 1/3 Framed Donated by the Artist Courtesy of Gallery Jones Value: $5,000 The west wing of the Parnupple Estate housed a large assortment of trophies and other impressive collectibles of the now adult Parnupple siblings. Most of one large wall along with three ornately carved oak cabinets highlighted the elder sibling’s awards honoring his decorated career as an army Sergeant. Stationed just slightly down the hallway, next to the janitorial closet, hung the ever-so-slightly-less-impressive collection of participation ribbons that Gillie Parnupple had amassed from a variety of elementary handicraft fairs. After growing up in a small town of less than 200 people in rural Saskatchewan, Lyle relocated to Vancouver BC, attended Blanche MacDonald Centre for Applied Design, and worked for MAC Cosmetics for over fifteen years. Once Lyle decided to focus solely on his artistic practice, his career skyrocketed. In 2019, he was named one of the Vogue World 100 (the top 100 people selected by Vogue Magazine for pushing boundaries of art, beauty and style, released his book Lyle XOX: Head of Design published by Rizzoli in New York, and was hosted by both the Dutch fashion house Viktor & Rolf and Cirque du Soleil to witness his process. This striking work is featured in our 2026 Brilliance Gala Auction, open to the public for bidding until March 12th. After a dismal attempt to update a resume, trying to find ways to dress up her position as Modesty Inspector at the local pool, Margreeth Obley desperately needed to foray into something that felt a bit less lecherous. The whole experience left the pungent aroma of defeat, and the prospect of paying rent by dipping her arm in honey and dragging it between the sofa cushions to collect Play-Doh covered valuables, now seemed highly probable. #notai #assemblage #contemporary #selfportrait @artnews @artdrunk @artinstitutechi @natgallerycan

Self proclaimed wallflower, Tippy Gorstein, mustered up copious amounts of mental fortitude to feign amusement during tedious dinner conversation at mother’s annual “Harvest Luncheon”. Tippy’s eyes eventually glazed over though as Mrs. Lundstrom, botanist and long term gout survivor, launched into an oratorical history of pesticides and floral fungus. #sculpture #selfportrait #assemblage #contemporaryart @numeroart @artinamerica @artdrunk @artforum

Always an eager candidate on the fragrance test panel, Tilley Windler, was tasked with mapping out the subtle nuances of each note to see what, if any, childhood trauma was resuscitated upon initial sniff. The first eau de toilette initially evoked the aroma of wildflowers, but a prolonged inhale quickly resulted in a mental detour to afternoons lying on Aunt Gerdy’s musty carpet watching mind numbing auto mechanic programs praying that the floral wallpaper would open its verdant mouth and swallow her whole. #photographysculpture #fineartphotography #assemblage #contemporarygallery #selfportrait @artinamerica @artforum @artreview_magazine @nationalportraitgallery @rubellmuseum @pantone

The once vibrant Spoken Word artist Essie-Lou Dullreed, was commissioned to compose lyrics for the latest juvenile flossing campaign. Although the catchy jingle could be heard being sung throughout most playgrounds in middle America and some parts of Peru, a macabre undertone was felt when kids chanted “it’s all fun and games until someone loses a molar”. #selfportrait #sculpture #contemporarygallery #art @thephotographersgallery @nationalportraitgallery @galerieperrotin @mmparisdotcom @davidzwirner @louisvuitton

Self Help author and relationship expert, Gunilla Gillreid, was poised to release a new body of work. Riding on the success of “Sloppy Seconds, Thriving Thirds” and “Seven Year Itch: There’s A Cream For That”, Gunilla dug deep into her archives and crafted a mental bouquet fit to be carried down any literary aisle. “If You Weed It They Will Come” was a true testament to perseverance and the enduring promise of personal grooming. #contemporaryart #selfportrait #sculpture #assemblage @artnews @artdrunk @nationalportraitgallery @vamuseum @parisphotofair

Nina Higgins, vocal coach at Saint Malbec Academy for Boys caused a scandal for the ages when she assembled the new junior quintet, “Tone Deaf Leppard”- fusing heavy metal with hymns. Members of the clergy sat stunned clutching their rosaries as the boys performed their ear numbing hit, “Billy’s got a Nun”. #art #contemporaryart #selfportrait #sculpture @artdrunk @artnews @nicholascullinan @artforum @nationalportraitgallery

Dagmar Fudge, Lamaze instructor and entrepreneur, opened “Opulent Obstetrics”, a private clinic which focused on luxury shopping as a method to workshop and rehearse breath control. Soon-to-be parents were subjected to rigorous buying sprees where price tag shock and credit card bills would induce severe hyperventilation similar to child labour. #sculpture #contemporaryart #selfportrait #botega @newbottega @matthieu_blazy @fotografiska.stockholm @nationalportraitgallery

As Una Gorbley sat in the back row of the bus, she wondered if the four and a half hour commute to the electrical plant was worth the effort. Thankfully, there were just six connections on the route to work and only the last half of the trip was on gravel roads past the fish processing plants. In fact, she had become quite familiar with the fragrance of aged smelt and had grown fond of the buzzing from the overhead bus lights. #contemporaryart #sculpure #selfportraitphotography #assemblage @nationalportraitgallery @nicholascullinan @davidzwirner @jeffreydeitchgallery @fondazioneprada

The last trio of junior writers stood around the gherkin platter at Noraleen Patski’s early retirement party recounting the sex columnist’s more controversial articles including, “Bedroom Politics: New Democratic Positions”. Sadly, The Ogilvy Chronicle had become more useful in the realm of fire starter than it was an antidote for literary impotence. #contemporaryart #nationalportraitgallery #selfportrait #sculpture @art21 @nationalportraitgallery @artnews @timvanlaere_tvl

Educator and hematology enthusiast, Dora Day Plewis, orchestrated the 4th grade musical “My Left Ventricle” to raise awareness for the local blood bank. The show opened with an awkwardly endearing tap dance and flute medley by the “Platelet Sisters”, but the boy who played the evil “Varicose Villain” stole the show with his exuberant and completely tone deaf musical rendition of “If You Prick Me Do I Not Bleed”. #sculpture #fineartphotography #contemporarygallery #selfportrait @artforum @nicholascullinan @davidzwirner @thephotographersgallery @nationalportraitgallery
