This season’s cover artist, Kim Ly, walks us through her creative process in designing the Season 2 art — a piece that visually ties back to Season 1 while capturing the darker, more urgent themes of this new chapter.
Here’s what
@lyframes shared about the process:
“During the early stages, we were quite interested in making this one a nighttime scene to contrast last season’s happier and brighter daytime. However, it almost felt too dark and ominous, especially with the large fires that I added. The yellows, greens, oranges and blacks from last season’s cover remain present. However, this time, the houses are all black — shrouded in a darkness filled with uncertainty. Additionally, instead of seeing the sun in the horizon, this time, there’s a fire that’s starting to scale the power lines. However, not all hope is lost; the grass remains green, some houses still have their lights on and the sun still remains high in the sky. Also, to really drill in the idea of a micro-grid community, there’s also a power cord running through the solar panels, which connects all of the houses together.”
