As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away. I’ve spent my 15 year career knowing that one day I would have to walk away, and yet actually saying goodbye to basketball today has been the hardest decision I’ve ever made.
It's been the honor of a lifetime to compete against the fiercest competitors under the brightest lights and to challenge what the world thought was possible for someone who looks like me. I've lived out my wildest childhood dreams to play in front of fans all around the world. I will forever be the kid who felt fully alive everytime I touched a basketball.
So many people have sacrificed and poured into my journey, more than I could ever repay. Thank you all for believing in me, for walking with me, for celebrating my highs and picking me up in my lows. This is a ride I never wanted to end but I know it’s time. I will forever miss playing basketball in front of you all but our time will go beyond just playing. Here’s to what’s ahead.
Love you all ❤️
A few months ago my amazing wife and I were blessed w the best possible gift we could receive. Fatherhood has honestly been the best experience of my life even though I get less sleep lol.
It's given me a much deeper understanding and appreciation of the love thats been shown to me, by God, my parents and my loved ones. I hope one day my son will say he felt that same love through his daddy ❤️ #dabonem
Trust is the foundation of a championship caliber team, excited to see how they stack up vs OKC in the conference final

Being a trailblazer isn’t meaningful if we don’t bring the community along with us. Sincerest thank you to @taaforg for the award and to Sophie for the meaningful introduction. Looking forward to all the ways we can show up for the AAPI community in these next five years.
Meet Roberto! 🫶 @hopehorizonepa
For 18 years, Roberto has been a pillar of the Hope Horizon community in East Palo Alto and Roberto has seen both his children and grandchildren participate in Hope Horizon’s programs. Roberto remembers days when his daughter didn’t want to join Hope Horizon programming, “She didn’t want to come because I was making her do it. But now that her kids are here, she sees the impact that we’re having on youth. Even if she didn’t see the impact for herself when she was here.”
While much has changed in the community, over 18 years, Hope Horizon’s work has not. Roberto said, “We have spiritual programs for middle school and high school youth... and the love and affection in the way they build their own community goes a long way. The program leaders lending an ear to listen to some of our kids, they go through situations at home that we’re not even aware of.”
Hope Horizon’s impact is holistic, spanning academic, spiritual, and emotional support. Roberto recalled, “Once, there was a young teenager having issues at home, there was crime in the family, and she lost both of her brothers. At first, she was having problems where she was depressed, didn’t want to talk to or open up to anybody, but inside she was screaming for help. Over time, she started opening up to our staff, and even though she lived through a situation she won’t be able to forget, our team eventually helped her move on. Last time I heard, she graduated high school and moved out to the East Coast. We do see her on social media sometimes. She’s doing good.”

Meet Momo! 🫶 @cyinyc
Momo has been an avid participant in CYI’s programs since she was in 8th grade! From Chinatown Beautification Day (CBD), to Chinatown Literacy Project (CLP), and Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), Momo has actively nurtured her passion for community. Momo said, “There is a huge part about CYI that has helped me grow a community so I feel less isolated, less alone. And I also get to build my leadership skills to face the real world as I grow up.”
In addition to learning lifelong skills, youth can participate in CYI’s various programs while building community along the way. Momo reflected, “I have actually met a lot of my close friends through CYI, and these are people I met in the various programs. The way I see it, once you do one program [with CYI] you really can’t stop.”

Meet Brenda! 🫶 @harbor_house_oakland
Now a freshman in college, Brenda started attending Harbor House’s after-school program in kindergarten. When she later met Kacie, Harbor House’s Executive Director, Brenda made a strong first impression as the 2nd grader who volunteered to help other kids in the program check out books from the library. Year after year, over the past 13 years, Brenda has grown into a leader at Harbor House, eventually helping lead the summer camp she once attended as a child, before heading off to college last fall. Kacie says, “There were times, especially in middle school, when life was really dark for Brenda. But she overcame those hard times and is stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate because of them.”
