5 ways to make your interview content actually intresting: Think about the content you actually watch online. Fun, short or relatable. Not a three-minute deep dive into why working in the sales department is fun because you get pizza on a Thursday. Here’s 5 ways to improve your video interviews for social media: 1. Intros rarely add value. Skip it or keep it invisible. Name and title go on-screen or in the caption if even needed. 2. Keep it short. Ditch the longer edit, break it into multiple digestible pieces. (Woo more content!) 3. Think like your audience. If it wouldn’t make you stop scrolling or get your interest it won’t work for anyone else. 4. Ditch the transcript. It makes filming easier but kills the character. Useful for tutorials or education videos, not interviews. A list of key points is better. 5. Add subtitles. Most people scroll with no sound. No subtitles means most people skip. One question to always ask: ‘Would I watch this?’

This is the one big mistake I see creatives make when building a portfolio website. It costs them months or the project never gets finished at all. The mistake? Choosing the wrong platform. Webflow and Wix look tempting. The marketing makes it seem like you can build something creative and fun with very little effort. But that’s the trap. To actually make the kinds of sites they showcase takes years of experience. Not weekends. Not evenings after work. And most creatives don’t need a “perfect someday” website. They need a solid one next week. That’s why, for DIY, I usually suggest Squarespace. Still a bit of a faff, but the easiest way to get something live without disappearing down a rabbit hole. What do I use? WordPress + Elementor. Not because it’s trendy - because I’ve got years of experience with it and it does pretty much everything a portfolio site needs. The right platform isn’t the fanciest one. It’s the one that actually gets your site finished.

Something I’m taking into 2026: feeling less guilty about taking it easy sometimes. When you run your own business it’s hard not to feel like you should be “on” all the time. Like if you’re not pushing at 100% you’re slacking. But that mindset just leads to burnout and resentment. And if this is something you struggle with too, you’re not alone… a lot of us feel it, even if we don’t talk about it much. Managing your energy matters more than constant hustle. So when you get the chance to slow down for a few days, take it. You’ve earned it. And you’ll come back clearer, calmer, and better at what you do.

What’s new at @yspsculpture ? A few hours wandering around to walk off the cheese and carbs. As always there’s a mix of new exhibitions and works across the park so it was well worth the visit. A few new bits I was especially excited to see: 1️⃣ @jordykerwick — a full gallery of fantastical creatures 2️⃣ @damienhirst — The Martyr (Saint Bartholomew) looking unreal in the glass house 3️⃣ @williamkentridgestudio — The Pull of Gravity. The outdoor ampersand is incredible and there’s loads more to take in inside too Always one of my favourite days out and I’m so lucky to live close by.

T1 vs The Abbey Dash! 💉🏃‍♂️ This is the first 10k I’ve ever done, I thought it would be fun to track my blood sugar through the race. Starting with mega high blood sugar after a breakfast was not the plan at all, but it at least meant I was safe from a bad low during the run so I can’t complain too much. Was happy just to finish, managed it in 1:05 ☺️

Sound familiar? 👀 I used to be that busy idiot who said yes to every project. I thought being busy meant I was growing, it didn’t. I was just tired, and the exhaustion wasn’t paying. 😴 If a project isn’t the right fit or the rate’s not right, say no. 🙅 The clients who value you will stick around. The rest will move on. Don’t be the busy idiot. Respect your time.

Let’s talk about the real MVP on a content shoot. 👀 Yep, tape. IYKYN. There’s always something loose that needs securing, something in the background that needs to vanish or something that just needs hiding. On this shoot the blind was broken, so we couldn’t get it to stay open at first. A bit of tape and a well-placed allen key later and it all worked fine. Bonus tip, different colours and strengths are helpful. It wasn’t needed here but a black or white can be useful to blend, surgical tape is useful for attaching hidden mics beneath clothing and of course safety tape for keeping wires secure and safe.

Branding + portfolio website for the @gotmoves.co gang. We started with just the name and developed the brand from there. We created a logo that tied in perfectly and gave the brand a clear mark that could be used across everything from album covers to the audio library so it always feels present. The movement in the logo carried through into the website with animated typography and interactive UI moments. The strict monochrome colour palette makes the work clearly stand out and be front and centre. ⭐️

Client ghosted you? Don’t panic. 👻 Sometimes clients disappear. They might not be ready, their priorities might have changed, or the timing just isn’t right. It doesn’t mean you did anything wrong. Here’s how to handle it: 1. Follow up thoughtfully (start soft, then medium, then final check-in). 2. Know when to move on and focus on leads who are ready to work with you. 3. Keep in touch over time, sharing a relevant case study or update can help reconnect later. Being ghosted isn’t failure. It’s just clearing space for clients who actually want to work with you.

I needed that extra hour. 😴 Running a creative business feels like the to-do list never ends. There’s always something that needs doing (asap). I catch myself judging my days by how much I get done/move projects forward. I like feeling productive… ticking things off, delivering projects, keeping things moving. It feels good. One thing I’ve had to learn, to avoid burn out or stress - IF you get a week where things slow down, just enjoy it. I used to panic thinking, ‘Why am I not busy?’ - But it’s just how it goes, it’s up and down. You’ll have another hectic week soon enough. Don’t feel guilty for enjoying the rare downtime. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed that extra hour… but yeah, I’ve got about a million things to sort next week, so to-do list time. 😄 Post featuring my (extra sleepy) cat Ralph 😸
