I was thinking a lot about the ground, the small and dirty and buggy and fungi things. Working through death and rebirth cycles in the self, in the soil. Decomposing leaf in my hair. .. This was already almost two years ago?? Some work itself moves in crip time, faerie time. .. Image Description: Slide 1. A photograph of a forest, in evening or early morning pale light. A redcedar and pine seem to come from the same base, flanked by fern. Two fell logs point the eye back around to a white blob in the center of the photograph. It’s hardly recognizable as a figure, curled up and facing away from the camera, lying on the forest floor beneath the trees. The figure wears white long underwear, and their hair blends into the dark brown of the tree trunk and dirt surrounding them. A series of river smooth stones line up around them. In the background, the forest carries on in sprays. Back in 2020, I was on the graphic design team for @nobodysfashionweek . The cover is a collage I put together that was collaboratively edited. I’m still smitten over the vibrance @lexymakesthings & @schwab.johanna brought. The NFW Instagram page is a gorgeous archive full of lovely work we did together, and all the exciting projects the artists did!! (Many of the image descriptions are mine as well, some of my loveliest to date!) .. Nobody’s Fashion Week Zine, 2021. Cover Design & “Marshmallows for the New World”. .. Image Descriptions: Slide 1 shows a book, about A4 size. The text in the center of the cover design reads, “Nobody’s Fashion Week” with an annotation reading, “Whose? Everybody’s!” Some of this text is embroidered in an olive green, some is drawn in white, some is unclear in origin. The cover design shows a collage of fabrics, some draped, some embroidered, stitched together, unraveling. Warm reds, oranges, purples, and pale pinks. Thinking about old work, various ravings and thrashings around. .. my name is uuh, 2019, performance & installation. .. I still have these pamphlets, DM if you want one— donation-based. They cradle the earliest inklings of my thesis on disability as faerieland. .. ID: Slides 1 and 2 are two halves of the same photograph. The camera points down at a white person with short brown hair and big 80’s glasses sprawled on the floor next to a pile of avocado-green and slate-blue fabric that resemble clothing, but abstracted or confused somehow. They (juliet) has on white roller-skates, black shorts, a purple handmade fanny-pack, and a shirt with embroidered muscles and guts on it. They look up at the camera, their body language expressing fatigue, emphasized by purple makeup on their face, hands, and knees. Pamphlets are scattered around them. Slide 3 shows another moment, in which the same figure, still sprawled out, gently passing a pamphlet to a viewer, who bends over to take it. Created with Root Division’s Accessibility Affirmations Workshop, exhibited in Crip’d Ecologies: Unfurling Expanded Environments. .. Materials: cumin, honey, candy, biotin. .. ID: Risograph print. A4 in peachy-pink, taped flat in landscape orientation against a white textured wall. The print is abstract, with ink in bright mustard-flower yellow and strong true orange. These intense colors are softened by the delicate peach background. The print would be all yellow if not for a big rectangle of pink negative space bordered by a hesitating, irregular orange line. Inside, we have smears of orange and yellow in messy groupings. Some marks are clearly made with fingers. A tiny snake of pink escapes and squiggles into the yellow. Slide 2 is a detail shot, we can see the dots of ink characteristic of risography pulling together the image. Slides 3 and 4 are the same print in different orientations. Day 3: Sunday! So dreamy. I’m back home and recuperating but still floating on the sweetness of this day. The weather was easy, and allowed me to stay out for an extra long time. Passers-by were friendly and took time with me. I got to meet my new dear friend @flobotomy in the flesh! (The joyful and faulty flesh!) I connected with so many kind folks over the course of this weekend at @aiop_nyc . Many many thanks to @gvitamvas & @ed.woodham & extra hugs and love to @convhersations_ for the support!! @ihaveacooldog and @kglovr took SUCH good care of me. I am feeling very loved & supported & surrounded by community. NYC is hard on my body but good on my heart. I can’t wait to come back. .. Day 2: Art in Odd Places. Got very wet. .. .. Image Description: juliet, a white, disheveled queer sits next to a pop-up table on the sidewalk in front of a window display featuring their drawings. juliet is smiling but looks a bit dejected, and is quite wet. The wet cement tells us they’ve been rained on. They wear green plaid trousers (pajama?) hemmed with bright green tape, black boots, a pink sweater with purple stains, and a tan slip that is sort of uncommitted to being on their body. They have a bolo tie with a sleepy tea bag as the focus, and a rubber hot water bottle is tied around their knee with a satin ribbon. They look tired. Next to them is a table with a suitcase full of clothes, and on their other side is a dress form, also dressed in a disheveled look. The dress form wears a pink ribbed jersey nightshirt with a satin robe draped over. Something else is under the robe, some cream-colored fabric that bunches up and creates a sort of tumorous shape. A bright pink shape also peeks out from inside the robe. Day 1: Art in Odd Places! Talked shit about polyester, rethought walkers, talked about blood and rice and comfort plushes and matching headphones & knee braces!! A big and good day! But there’s two more so please come talk to me about your pajamas!! .. .. Image Description: Image 1: Looking down at a tabletop scattered with materials like pens, old stuffed animals, a kn95 mask, velvet neck pillow, and gingham bonnet, as well as a sketchbook laid open. There are four questions written onto the sketchbook in blue sharpie. They read: “What is your relationship with clothes/fashion as a sick person? Do you need different things from your clothes during different bodymind times? Do they contradict? What is “dressed”? Does this change around non-disabled folks? Do you feel good about how you look and feel in your rest day clothes? Why?” There are a few small doodles below these questions, of a puddle, a bandage, a slipper, etc. Image 2: A dress form, clothes rack, and folding chair on a city sidewalk. Behind these is a young tree, and behind them is a building. More buildings reflect off the round-edged windows. The dress form is draped in a pink ribbed jersey nightshirt, vintage stained cotton bloomers, a brown floral cotton robe missing a piece of fabric, an apron worn only on one shoulder and tied at the waist, and a grey electric heating pad almost as a cape. The cord hangs down playfully. The clothes rack is full of comfortable-looking clothes in mostly earth tones. There’s also a lot of ribbons and tape. Image 3: A mirror selfie. juliet, a white person with a curly brown shag haircut, gazes blankly and holds up a phone to take the picture. They’re wearing a pink jumper with purple stains, a brass acorn pendant, a loose quilted jacquard jacket worn over one shoulder in pale pink. On the hand holding the phone, they wear a cream bandage/brace stained from use. At the bottom of the photo, we see a satin skirt bunched up unevenly, and the underside of a bodysuit hangs in front.
