Last week @entropies_collective launched *serres*’s 3rd edition : a glasshouse in summer / une serre l’été.
It features some very special contributions by artists and friends @tingchzy@chendi_chen_di@loftmoth@bait.ball@ennie_where@ritaissonaive
Along with the artists, we screened films, a series of readings, and discussions. It was hosted simultaneously online and in person at both @dos.mares in Marseille, France, and @futurecultures in Lisbon, Portugal.
This publication has been a joy to curate, translate and design ; therefore, a big thank you is extended to everyone who came, and everyone involved, especially, @nbrunelle_ , without whom, this idea would never have seen the light of day. @cobyrae

Residency Announcement: Babette Semmer
Future Cultures is glad to welcome Babette Semmer for our first hosted residency in Lisbon from March 12-19, 2025!
This residency supports Babette’s project, “Milk and Tears” by fostering connections with Lisbon’s artistic community and providing access to archives, museums, and the city’s rich publishing heritage, as well as developing an exchange between the feminist perspectives of Babette Semmer’s and Léna Lewis-King’s practices and narratives.
Artist biography:
Babette Semmer (b. London, 1989) is a painter based in Berlin.
Semmer's work explores sentimentally charged subject matter such as female subjectivity, romantic love, family and the private sphere. She translates found footage, autobiographical or imaginary scenarios into highly evocative, atmospheric images.
For her most recent series she gleans certain motifs such as still lives, portraits and staged scenes from vintage magazines, and then crops, magnifies and distorts them through painterly processes. She combines the granular texture of coarse sand with the melting and luminous qualities of oil paint to create sensual effects that both echo analogue photography and undermine a purely representational reading of the work. This tactile approach to photo-realism allows the eye and the mind to oscillate between the concrete reality of the canvas as an object and its narrative and mimetic allusions.
Semmer studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. In 2022 she participated in the Goldrausch Artist Project and in 2024 she was a recipient of the visual arts grant of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. A selection of her drawings was recently published with Nieves Books in Zürich. Her works has been shown at Bonner Kunstverein, Galerie Setareh in Berlin and Three Works in Scarborough.
Soon we will announce the details of an informal artist talk with Babette.
