Bias Amplification - as a female Asian who’s lived at different parts of Europe for over ten years in my life, I’ve experienced both the privilege to travel, and the undervalued/ biased treatment because of the way I look, speak and behave.
It is confirmed that historically underprivileged groups will experience biased treatment when AI collects from existing data.
When I first heard it i reactively thought about moments in my life when I felt marginalised. + the immense speed of change AI has brought in my daily life already.
I started drafting this animation from a third person’s perspective - a disproportional composition. But what if I look at it from the biased group’s pov instead?
The feeling of something that cannot be crossed; the feeling of leaving very little trace comparing to my existence. The feeling of seeing the token Asian girl💆🏻♀️ Perhaps some would have the feeling of always getting the smaller pie?
I decided to pair these ideas with colorful, seemingly positive visuals, because the world is still glamorous, and I love a cheerful song with sad lyrics.
