It's not often you are asked to be featured in a book - or is it to sit and talk about your business and have the opportunity to reflect on how it's changed and developed. These moments are a huge reminder of how grateful I am to be doing this. Folk will be 8 years old this year and whilst that's no time at all compared to so many, that feels totally insane to me. What a ride hospitality is! I say this far too often, but there are still more highs than lows and there is nothing I'd rather be doing so, I feel that's a pretty privileged position to be in. I am so bloody proud of this place and the extremely cool, eclectic team & community who make Folk Folk. Congratulations, and thank you so much Adam & Hannah for creating and including us in this beautiful book, it's really special to be asked and to sit alongside this outstanding Suffolk selection. Earlier on this week, we headed out to visit and hand-deliver Suffolk Story to a selection of independent bookshops and shops across Suffolk. Adam and I had so many positive conversations with people about what we’ve been working on over the last year, and the interest in Suffolk Story has been really amazing. Thanks to everyone’s support, we’ve now sold out of our first print run of the book - something we still can’t quite believe! We've had such a crazy week since launch, luckily I booked time off from my actual job as I've lost track of the amount of books I've packed up to send out (a very nice challenge to have!). Two other highlights of the week are both down to @velvetmag One of our biggest fans (my mum) was first to spot and send me a picture of our write up in this month's Velvet Magazine. A whole page all about our book was quite surreal to see and it couldn't have come at a better time-just as we officially launched the book. Another surreal moment and one that capped off an amazing week. 💝What a total "pinch me" moment. In January 2025, I set myself a goal of getting one of our recipes into a book. I had no idea how this would happen, but I was determined. Imagine my surprise when we were contacted a year ago by Adam (the author), who said he was writing a book about the finest eateries/ drinks producers in Suffolk and wanted us to be in it! Now, one thing you must know is that we get SO many requests, DMs and emails for similar things. Sometimes I give people our email, sometimes I just disregard the message. Very rarely do people follow through with an email, so I knew this one was different right off of the bat. When I got chatting to Adam, I could see how passionate he was and immediately invited him to the Bean Bunker last summer for an interview. We talked for hours about our story and how we got started and it was all very exciting. I didn't think in a million years he would finish the book THIS SOON. He's a machine! Adam's story is one of true drive and pride for his home county. He is an absolute foodie and it really shows in the book. It's a stunning read, with recipes from establishments/ brands all over Suffolk and he deserves every success with it. 🥰Also the HUGEST shout out to Hannah, who was the photographer for the book and also played a much bigger role in bringing this masterpiece to life. What a night... Last night we had the official book launch event for Suffolk Story. It was such an amazing evening in so many ways. Bringing together so many amazing businesses and people in one room was surreal. This was everyone's first time seeing the book and we were so excited to share it with everybody. The night was a celebration, and a chance to bring the book to life at the same time. A massive thank you to some of the people and places who contributed to make that happen. For hosting the event in such a wonderful location. A massive thank you to @angel_hotel_bury and @tomslegg To the chefs who contributed towards a very special selection of canapes: @1921_angel_hill @folksuffolk @rusticobse @lark.restaurant @peaporridgerestaurant @brownieandthebean @tacor_taqueria To the breweries and vineyards who provided us with enough drink to really make it a party! @burntmillbrewery @artefactbrewing @burntmillbrewery @arkwines To @ed_thewineman for putting on some great welcome drinks and keeping the tunes going all night. We put together some little goody bags for everyone to take home as well, alongside a copy of the book these also Included a few extras from.. @edmunds_uk @alemacoffee @pumpstreetchocolate Almost exactly a year since we started this project, last night was the perfect way to celebrate it. So thank you to everyone for making it a night we'll never forget. It's safe to say there were a few sore heads this morning (Hannah and mines in particular!). But that's the sign of a great night! The book may be done, but the Suffolk Story is far from over. We've got so much more planned and we can't wait to share more details soon. We have some great events lined up over the spring/summer where we're taking Suffolk Story on the road! First up is @wavymarkets where we're doing our first ever pop up market. This will be one of the first opportunities to have a look at the book (even before it lands in local bookshops!). If that wasn't enough, you also get to chat with Hannah and I (yes, I'm claiming this as a positive thing) about anything book related (and beyond within reason). We're super excited as wavy market hosts @folksuffolk feature in the book and our market pals @arkwines are also one of the featured businesses! Ahead of the book launch later this month, we thought it was about time we introduced ourselves... Hannah is a photographer with a natural instinct for people and places. Originally from Scotland, she made the move from London to Suffolk and now lives in a small village with her family. After years of living abroad and moving around, that sense of arriving somewhere new, of getting to know people and taking things in, sits at the heart of her work. Suffolk: A Story Told Through Food, Drink and People was shaped as much by Hannah’s presence as her photographs. Never standing on the sidelines, Her confidence and warmth helped put people at ease, allowing conversations to unfold and moments to reveal themselves naturally. Often working away in the background, she spent long stretches in kitchens, vineyards, bakeries and bars, sharing time rather than directing it. Over the course of the year, Hannah built relationships with the people featured in this book. Her images reflect that perspective, focusing on atmosphere, process and the human detail that surrounds the food and drink venues featured. Hannah's role extended far beyond just the photographs. She has led in all things creative, including the cover design and layout of the pages.
