We are delighted to have received this fantastic review of Pregnancy and Birth: A Graphic Guide
@graphicmedicine (the global movement of the intersection btw comics and healthcare) by Dr Laboni Das. I’ve posted it in full as it totally endorses what
@lillyw89 and I were hoping to do with the book 🙏🙏
‘Pregnancy and Birth is more than a pregnancy guide; it is a manifesto for compassionate, intersectional, and visually literate healthcare. It stands as both an artwork and an ethical document—one that reimagines pregnancy not as a condition to be managed but as a story to be shared.’
Pregnancy and Birth was created btw myself midwife & writer and cartoonist
@lillyw89 to cover all aspects of pregnancy and birth, with sections covering health inequality for Black, Brown and other minoritised communities, the history of midwifery and obstetrics, mental health in the perinatal period and the politics of infant feeding.
Far from shying away from these wider topics the graphic form makes medical, psychosocial and political aspects of childbirth and healthcare accessible and easier to engage with.
The book is available to order now for anyone going through the childbirth journey and would make an ideal gift!
Join us for the launch event
@vagina_museum on Sunday 16th November, 2pm - 4pm, with zine-making, journaling, speakers & tea and cakes!
